Summary

We are seeking a dynamic Senior Manager to lead and expand Climate Groups industry focused campaigns in the US and North America in particular SteelZero and ConcreteZero.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop and extend Climate Groups body of work on industry decarbonization, one of the most important areas for business action on climate. Reporting to the Head of Systems Change, North America and responsible in the future for line management of a growing team, the role involves close working relationships with colleagues across the organization as well as multiple non-profit, industry, and government partners.

About the role

The regional Industry campaigns, SteelZero and ConcreteZero, will dovetail with other key global initiatives led by Climate Group including RE100, EP100, EV100 and the Under2 Coalition. Our mission for SteelZero and ConcreteZero is to mobilize transformative global demand for low emission, near- and eventually net-zero steel and concrete. Driving this systemic change across the full material supply chain, we work with key decision makers across the technology, policy and investment landscape.

The Senior Manager will work as part of the North America Climate Group team and within Climate Groups international Industry System team. Their role is to drive the delivery and expansion of Climate Groups evolving SteelZero and ConcreteZero initiatives as well as our wider body of work with heavy industry in North America. They will build upon the substantial progress made by these two initiatives and deliver on a key part of Climate Groups industry strategy, which is focused on expanding in key markets, namely the US as well as India, South Korea, Japan and China, and delivering real world impact across the steel and concrete supply chain and policy landscape.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead scoping, development and delivery of SteelZero and ConcreteZero campaigns across the US and North American market

  • Manage and evolve existing and new relationships to meet campaign aims and identify opportunities to deepen and extend our work in the US and North America

  • Work closely with the technical team at our partner, ResponsibleSteel, to efficiently deliver and broaden SteelZero activities

  • Design and support the implementation of core project activities to deliver Climate Groups Industry strategy, including working with our Fundraising and Communications teams

  • Develop new funding opportunities and build regional industry team

  • Represent Climate Group, SteelZero, ConcreteZero and other business action campaigns at international events

  • Contribute to regular progress reports, annual reports and other matters as required

The Senior Manager will work closely across our offices and team members in London, Latin America, New Delhi, Amsterdam and Beijing, as well as additional international partners and associates.

About you

Essential

  • Commitment to the mission of Climate Group, SteelZero, ConcreteZero and wider heavy industry decarbonization

  • Experience working in or in partnership with the private sector and ideally with senior/board level personnel

  • Experience working internationally with governments and regulators

  • Knowledge and experience of energy and climate issues heavy industry decarbonization a bonus

  • Demonstrable aptitude in team, project and budget management

  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to multitask in order to meet strict timelines and budgets

  • Strong stakeholder management skills

  • Appreciation of commercial and financial drivers for businesses and NGOs

  • Team player with the ability to identify where support is needed and comfortable delivering an administrative workload where necessary alongside more strategic activities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across a range of cultural contexts

  • Proactive and able to work independently and unsupervised to deliver tasks and achieve project objectives

Desirable

  • Strong research skills and ability to analyze complex policy and business content

  • Media experience (providing interviews for print and an aptitude for external written communications)


Our location

We operate a hybrid working model with a combination of remote and office-based working. Our main base is in NYC, and we are also willing to consider candidates based in other regions especially Washington DC.

This is a full-time post (can be considered on a part-time basis).

The salary offered is $75,000-90,000 per annum, based on experience.
