Environmental Opinion Writer (Volunteer)

Volunteer Position | Remote | 2 Months
Are you passionate about environmental issues and have strong opinions you want to share with the world? We're looking for talented writers to craft compelling 3-6 page opinion pieces that reflect unique perspectives on environmental challenges and solutions.
The Climate Centre is a charitable not-for-profit dedicated to making meaningful impact on environmental and climate-related issues. We focus on the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation on people and communities by conducting citizen science research, volunteer programs, participatory and independent research, by creating digital material on climate change, and by conducting policy analysis and public outreach and advocacy.
We’ve created a new project platform for sharing perspectives and opinions on environmental issues impacting Australians, on our communities and the ecosystems that we value. We intend on understanding these perspectives through qualitative surveys and assembling an opinion-based written report that will be published on our website. The current phase of the project will start on 15 December 2025 and run for two months, ending on 7 February 2026.
Transform your environmental passion into powerful written content. Over 2 months, you'll develop a personal opinion piece from concept to completion, sharing your authentic voice on the environmental issues that matter most to you. You’ll also take part in a survey on your perceptions on climate change and environmental issues.
Your Journey:
- Month 1: Complete a survey and submit your draft opinion piece
- Month 2: Submit your final polished piece
- Your Opinion Matters: we want your perspective and personal insights about issues that are important to you.
- Flexible & Remote: Work from anywhere with fortnightly email check-ins and virtual meetings as needed
- Supportive Process: Regular feedback and guidance throughout your writing journey
- Platform for Impact: Your voice will contribute to important environmental conversations
This is a volunteer role with no other benefits other than fully remote work and flexible working hours.
- Has strong writing skills and loves crafting compelling content
- Feels passionate about environmental issues (any aspect - climate, conservation, sustainability, policy, etc.)
- Can work independently and meet deadlines
- Is comfortable sharing personal opinions and perspectives
- Enjoys collaborative and constructively critical feedback processes
Ready to pitch your idea? You'll attend a 20 minute Zoom interview and present a 5 to 10-minute pitch about your proposed opinion piece topic and approach - this is your chance to show us your passion and perspective!
