Position Type: Full-Time
Benefits: Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, 401(k), Paid Time Off

About the Role

We are seeking a Lead Boiler Controls Technician to join our team in the Chicago area. In this role, you will install advanced control and sensor networks in residential and commercial buildings, helping modernize outdated heating systems with smart technology. This position focuses heavily on installation—no previous energy industry experience is required, but strong electrical or HVAC experience is essential.

You will work directly in boiler rooms, integrate hardware, set up network sensors, and ensure systems are operating correctly. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, problem-solving, and working independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install the building’s control unit and establish a reliable internet connection.
  • Install both wired and wireless network sensors throughout residential and commercial buildings.
  • Test and validate system performance, ensuring accurate control and strong wireless network communication.
  • Safely navigate boiler rooms and identify components in both steam and hydronic systems.
  • Coordinate installation schedules with the internal team.
  • Update and maintain accurate installation records for internal technology, monitoring, and finance teams.
  • Maintain proper parts inventory within the company-provided service van.
  • Provide service calls as needed to troubleshoot or support existing installations.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience in the electrical or HVAC field (required).
  • Knowledge and understanding of computers, circuits, and basic wiring principles.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technology-based heating control systems.
  • Clean and valid driver’s license (required).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Natural problem-solving abilities with a proactive and positive attitude.
  • Strong sense of ownership and pride in your work.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Google Docs/Sheets.
  • Conversational Spanish is a plus.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

What We’re Looking For

Ideal candidates thrive in hands-on environments, enjoy troubleshooting technical systems, and can work independently in the field. You should be comfortable working in mechanical spaces like boiler rooms, willing to learn new technology, and capable of managing your own schedule, materials, and customer interactions.

Why This Role Matters

This position plays a major part in helping buildings transition to cleaner, smarter, and more energy-efficient operations through modern control technology. Your work directly impacts reduced energy waste, improved comfort for occupants, and overall building performance.
