Environmental Consultant
Shape Environmental Outcomes Across the UK and Ireland
Tetra Tech is seeking to appoint an Environmental Consultant to join our Planning & Environmental team. Based in our Belfast office, this role offers the opportunity to support and deliver a diverse range of environmental assessments and feasibility work across the UK and Ireland. The position is based in a large, permanently desked office located on the edge of the city with on‑site parking, strong public transport connections and easy access to major road networks. The role supports hybrid working, with an expectation of two to three days per week in the office to facilitate mentoring, collaboration and team coordination. Flexible working arrangements can be accommodated where project responsibilities allow. Our multidisciplinary environment provides exposure to significant projects within the water and wastewater, renewables, residential and commercial sectors.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
As an Environmental Consultant, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality environmental assessments, including air quality impact assessments, dust and odour evaluations, and environmental constraints and feasibility studies that inform planning and design decisions. You will support data collection, interpretation and analysis, applying recognised methodologies and using GIS tools such as QGIS and ArcMap to prepare mapping, spatial analysis and technical outputs. You will contribute to the preparation of Construction Environmental Management Plans, ensuring that construction‑phase environmental risks and mitigation measures are clearly defined and proportionate.
Your role will involve working closely with colleagues, clients, regulators and wider project teams to ensure environmental considerations are integrated from the outset of development proposals. You will support the preparation of clear, defensible technical reports that help clients navigate planning processes and environmental approvals, contributing to project delivery across a wide range of sectors, including water and wastewater, renewable energy, residential development and commercial infrastructure.
Your Impact in this Position
Your work will directly influence the environmental quality and regulatory compliance of development and infrastructure projects across the region. By supporting complex environmental assessments, feasibility studies and the preparation of environmental documentation, you will help clients understand project risks, opportunities and constraints. Your inputs to air quality, dust, odour and feasibility assessments will ensure that environmental risks are identified early and addressed in a proportionate and evidence‑based manner.
As you progress, you will deepen your technical expertise across the sectors we serve, including water and wastewater, renewables, residential and commercial development. You will contribute to the continued development of the environmental discipline, supporting improvements to methods, reporting standards and internal processes. Your impact will be reflected in the clarity of your reporting, the quality of your data analysis and the value you add to multidisciplinary project teams.
