What to Expect
Tesla’s Cell Manufacturing Engineering team is looking for highly-motivated Manufacturing Engineering Technicians for an exciting new project. This role will be involved in the development, commissioning and ramping of high-speed automated equipment, while working in a cross-functional team to test, validate, and roll-out process and product design changes.
The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our products. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate should be ready to push their limits, as they join our highly motivated and capable team.
What You’ll Do
  • Support development, commissioning, and ramp of custom high speed automated manufacturing equipment

  • Perform equipment setup, operation, adjustments, and necessary maintenance tasks to meet safety, quality, and efficiency standards for equipment in development and commissioning stages.

  • Work collaboratively as the manufacturing equipment support to ensure production lines run in a safe, efficient manner producing high quality parts

  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineers and suppliers to identify inline issues, potential solutions and engineering improvements as they arise during development and commissioning.

  • Debug and optimize automated processes to reduce cycle times and maximize OEE, support FMEA / risk assessment activities to ensure design and manufacturing issues are identified and risks mitigated, and support safety and ergonomic improvements to production equipment which meets or exceeds regulations or best practices

  • Troubleshoot and recover processes using PLC, HMI, or tool management software and provide hands-on support to operations and maintenance team to troubleshoot and resolve extended downtime situations

  • Identify equipment critical spare parts and ensure sufficient coverage to prevent extended downtime situations

  • Build operating procedures, training material, maintenance routines, and related documentation for equipment life cycle management

  • Conduct analytical tests, measure, record and interpret data using defined tools and software

  • Participate in supplier/internal equipment FAT and SAT

What You’ll Bring
  • 3+ years of hands-on operational and technical experience with mechatronics or electromechanical systems and components in a highly automated manufacturing environment while demonstrating knowledge in root cause analysis

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, cross-functional and fast-paced environment

  • Metal working, band saws, grinders, mill, lathe and such fabrication skills, knowledge of hand and power tools, pneumatic equipment

  • Experience in high and low voltage systems, knowledge of electrical hazards including precautionary measures around high voltage equipment and spinning machinery

  • Ability to use basic electrical tools such as digital multi-meter, meg-ohm tester, thermocouple meters, power supplies, and data acquisition to test platforms as well as basic wiring knowledge and ability to connect sensors

  • Ability and passion to perform hands-on tasks and inspections, possess good manual dexterity and visual acuity to perform delicate assembly and disassembly tasks and ability to lift and sort parts of up to 20 pounds as needed

  • Ability to use technological tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data as well as strong proficiency in common workplace software such as MS Word and Excel

  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, structured thinking and demonstrated problem solving abilities following a data driven approach, statistical software a plus

  • Availability for domestic/international travel as required

  • Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal
