What to Expect
Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start January 2025 and continue through the entire Spring term (i.e. through April/May 2025) or into Summer 2025 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

What You’ll Do

Electrical Engineering
  • Tesla’s Power Electronics group is looking for interns to design and manufacture power electronics hardware for a variety of automotive and energy storage products including Cybertruck, Powerwall, Megapack and many other Tesla automotive and energy storage products. The ideal candidate will have outstanding academic performance and a passion for hardware design, proficiency with basis EE tools, and have a solid understanding of the theory and application of electronic circuits, magnetics, and capacitors.

Mechanical Engineering

  • As a Mechanical Design Engineer in Tesla's Power Electronics team, you will be responsible for the design of cutting edge, world-class power converters and high-voltage safety devices used across the entirety of Tesla, from Vehicle and Energy Storage to Solar and Manufacturing. You will be joining an elite team of driven engineers with a huge scope, reach, and potential impact. Your day-to-day tasks will involve design, analysis, and testing of all structural, thermal, environmental, and insulating aspects of converter components and their electrical connections. An example would be the detailed design of custom magnetic components such inductors, transformers, filter chokes, etc. You will own the design from conception thru all of its iterations to mass-production. The ideal candidate will have experience designing packaging for electronic assemblies, deep understanding of material science of components used in mechanical design, proficiency using 3D mechanical design and analysis tools (CATIA, ANSYS Icepak, StarCCM), and excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

Expected Compensation

$20.00 - $50.00, depending on level + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
