What You’ll Do What You’ll Bring
Tesla is seeking a dynamic environmental professional to join the Environmental, Health and Safety Team (EHS). The role will support environmental compliance programs for Tesla Non-Manufacturing. Reporting to EHS leadership, this role will be responsible for performing complex technical work across hazardous materials programs, including tracking and maintaining chemical inventory, preparing & maintaining hazardous material reports and documents, and ensuring compliance with hazardous material storage across Tesla facilities. This role works closely with emergency management, site management, material planning, & local EHS representatives to standardize processes and maintain accuracy. They will serve as the internal subject matter expert and advise and influence internal business partners to achieve environmental and hazardous material performance goals. What You’ll Do
- Oversee and review Hazardous Material Business Plans (HMBP) or Hazardous Materials Management Plant (HMMP) as well as record keeping requirements as it relates to Hazardous Waste Operations, including but not limited to: hazardous waste manifests, waste profiles, training records, compliance inspections, and regulatory reports
- Manage training (RCRA, DOT, HAZWOPER, Safety, etc.) required for hazardous waste technicians/site teams and document training rosters for record keeping and support the completion of waste classifications for new waste streams, sample coordinating, data analysis, and creation of new vendor waste profiles as well as the completion of regulatory reports for EPA other regulatory agencies as assigned
- Partner with Fire Engineers, EHS, Design Managers, and non-manufacturing stakeholders to ensure compliance with hazardous material storage maximum allowable quantities (MAQs) and to develop new/improve existing databases for chemicals and hazardous materials while tracking purchases related to chemicals or hazardous materials
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for environmental compliance procedures
- Ensure compliance with proper labeling and placarding across HMIS, NFPA, and GHS requirements as well as compliance with codes adopted by local & state agencies related to daily compliance and on routine inspections
- Support audits and inquiries from regulatory agencies, including EPA, DTSC, NFPA and local Fire Departments while monitoring and analyzing the developing trends and changes in regulatory compliance laws, rules, and regulations
- Analyze data and report trends. Recommend and support risk-reduction plans and corrective and preventive actions to standardize and implement waste management and minimization procedures.
- Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy & Management, Fire Protection Engineering (or related discipline); or equivalent experience
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), relevant environmental professional certification, or willingness to obtain
- Minimum 5+ years of experience supporting hazardous material programs- maintaining and/or auditing compliance records, preparing HMBPs and managing regulatory/agency interaction/ inspections
- Ability to classify hazardous materials in relation to IFC, IBC, and general foundational knowledge of IBC, IFC, DOT, EPCRA, and HAZWOPER laws, regulations, and standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced environment, where demands and priorities change rapidly all while assisting hazwaste technicians.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact at all levels of the organization as well as strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (proficient in spreadsheet development, word processing, presentation software and database applications)
- Ability and willingness too travel up to 50%
Compensation and Benefits
Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire:
$70,400 - $240,000/annual salary, depending on level + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
