What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated engineer to develop and innovate new processes and high-volume automation equipment within the Laser Weld Equipment Design team. Specifically, this engineer is expected to be or become a process expert in the field of laser welding applications, including work in both lab environment and transfer error-free processes to high volume manufacturing. Other responsibilities would include supporting development and production ramp of highly automated manufacturing systems to laser weld components into completed assemblies. The engineer works closely with Tesla’s internal Equipment Design, Process Development, Production and Quality Engineering teams, and coordinates cross-functional design activities with equipment vendors to develop scalable innovations in laser weld processes, tools, and defect-free quality. This individual will also assume ownership of the design and technical transfer of the laser welding tools to Tesla Operations, qualifying them for use with the highest standards of safety, quality, and output.
This individual would be based in Markham, Ontario but would function as a global expert of these systems and some international travel will be required.
What You’ll Do

  • Manage installation, qualification and ramp-up of manufacturing equipment including but not limited to laser welding systems
  • Collaborate with Equipment Design, Automation Controls, Production Engineering, Product Design, Quality, Operations and EH&S for maximum yield, quality, machine availability and output
  • Optimize product flow and line efficiency while reducing Capex and lead-time
  • Generate machine specifications, documentation, and manufacturing instructions
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, 6+ years relevant experience, or equivalent
  • Experience working with different laser welding tools, materials, and vision systems
  • Strong hands-on experience with high-volume and pilot manufacturing
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software
  • Proven track record of data driven workflow to solve complex problems
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Evidence of exceptional ability
