What to Expect

Tesla Megafactory in Lathrop, CA is looking for an experienced Quality Engineer for Megapack production lines. In this role, you will be responsible for the quality of the parts, the process and the final product. You will partner with Design, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Service to develop Tesla’s production process to make high quality products that meet our internal and external customer expectations. The Quality Engineer is a professional problem solver, that can make good use of quality techniques (SixSigma, advanced statistics, Advanced Product Quality Planning, data visualization) to solve quality challenges and develop reliable processes that prevent creation of defects, enabling high quality products that meet the high reliability standards in energy business, contributing to the mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

What You’ll Do
  • Accountable for the quality of incoming components, quality controls and assurance in production process, root cause analysis and resolution of problems impacting internal and external customers, continuous improvement and risk mitigation
  • Drive cross functional teams to achieve targets for field reliability, scrap and first pass yield
  • Development of manufacturing requirements, quality standards and product quality plans to assure products will meet expectations of our target customers
  • Deployment of manufacturing level requirements to subsystems, assemblies & components to assure clear focus on design and customer needs
  • Identification of critical requirements to assure proper supplier and production focus on critical needs
  • Leading development of FMEAs (Design & Process) for development teams to identify and address critical risks
  • Assist development with dimensional analysis, statistical tolerancing and other methods to investigate the effects of part and process variability on system performance
  • Support process capability analyses to investigate the ability of suppliers and production processes to meet defined specifications and quality standards
  • Design effective experiments through DOE or other methods to support design and process teams in investigation of various alternatives to resolve quality issues
  • Manage and facilitate the root cause & corrective actions system through tracking and validation of issues and support in root cause analysis through facilitating brainstorming, use of lean methodologies, hypothesis testing, design of experiments, DMAIC, 8D, etc.
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials or Industrial Engineering, or evidence of exceptional experience in related fields
  • Six Sigma or ASQ certification are preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in quality engineering
  • Specific training and demonstrated success in applying design for quality, problem-solving methodologies, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE and SPC
  • A working knowledge of arc welding processes for carbon and alloy metals (GMAW and RSW).
  • Develop standards and validate welding process (WPS/PQR).
  • Troubleshoot welding problems and provide corrective solutions.
  • Familiarity with ASTM specifications and AWS/ASME welding codes.
  • Destructive and Non-Destructive weld validation Methods Experience such a UT and cut and edge.
  • Onsite presence required

Expected Compensation

$64,800 - $145,800/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
