The Energy Technical Content team creates, manages, and localizes a wide variety of technical documents, illustrations, and videos that support internal and external stakeholders across every product line including energy storage, charging, and solar. This content enables critical teams to deploy, commission, and service Tesla’s groundbreaking products to continue accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy. The team is looking to hire a manager to proactively participate in all major Energy product programs as the voice and executor of technical content initiatives across all phases of the product life cycle. This role would involve building and maintaining strong partnerships with engineering and product leaders, keeping up to speed with the latest technical product updates, and developing the team to be a well-oiled machine that stays closely plugged into the organization’s happenings and creates content accordingly.
What You'll Do
- Develop, encourage, mentor, and provide day-to-day operational support to a team of technical writers and illustrators on key performance metrics such as technical product knowledge, cross-functional collaboration, content creation, and innovation
- Learn and maintain a strong grasp of the technicalities of every Energy product by going out into the field to experience the hardware firsthand, studying theory of operations documentation, watching technical product videos, participating in training, and attending engineering program and design reviews
- Drive continuous improvement to team processes including request intake, stakeholder alignment, systems and tools, prioritization, reporting, metrics, project documentation, roadmaps, and vendor relationships
- Build strong partnerships with key stakeholders across the Product, Engineering, Compliance, Safety, Product, Localization, Infrastructure, and Service teams across every Energy product program to stay on top of the latest product launches, new market entries, product launches, and top issues
- Oversee training and rollout of new procedures and tools for the team as related to content creation, new products, localization, metrics, and upward reporting
- Represent the technical publications function at program reviews, management meetings, and adhoc working sessions
What You'll Bring
- Degree in English, Technical Writing, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of people management experience, directly leading and mentoring technical writing or content teams
- 10+ years of technical writing or content creation experience is preferred
- Ability to respond to high-priority escalations from senior management and distilling the ask to the team in a collected manner, assisting with prioritization, and managing the team’s workload and throughput
- Thorough understanding of the end-to-end content creation, publication, and localization process
- Experience working with technical subject matter in the Energy industry is preferred
- Experience working directly with advanced technology (hardware or software) is preferred

Expected Compensation
$104,000 - $192,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
