Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Packaging Engineering Intern to join our packaging engineering team in developing world-class designs for the use in high volume automation equipment. You will work closely with the material flow and manufacturing departments to steer the selection of the best packaging solutions and thereafter implement those during the launch and ramp-up of Gigafactory Berlin.


What You'll Do
  • Supporting end-to-end engineered packaging projects for Tesla Vehicle Programs
  • Interface with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, New Product Introduction, and Operations partners to gather and develop packaging requirements
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Logistics to drive projects to enable the most efficient delivery of parts possible without sacrificing part quality or manufacturability
  • Provide design direction and development plans of protective packaging containers, dunnage and unique shipping racks – domestic and international
  • Monitor KPI’s and work with Packaging Design Engineers to develop world-class packaging standards and continue to improve upon them
  • Learn how to drive expendable to returnable projects and participate in sustainability initiatives
  • Assist in vendor selection and vendor management

What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, or advanced degree in packaging engineering, mechanical engineering, logistics or another related field
  • Working knowledge of CAD-software and technical drawings
  • Familiarity with lean production principles
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities at once without sacrificing quality of results
  • Proficient at risk-management and communication
  • Team player with strong process and continuous improvement mindset
  • Fluency in English and German
  • Preferably having experience with the design, development, and implementation of packaging projects in the automotive industry or for high-speed automated lines
