What to Expect

Our (Associate, Senior, Lead) Body Shop Technicians are invaluable within the Tesla Body Shop. In this position, you will be part of working in a worldwide team and network in addition to your colleagues at the local center, and you’ll be in a great position to impact Tesla’s body repair operation development. You will carry out a variety of repairs in a timely and accurate manner, help your team thrive and directly affect the profitability of the Bodyshop and customer satisfaction metrics by using your in depth understanding of collision and body repair.

The technician should be working in the accident repair sector and must have at least five years’ experience to ensure they are familiar with the skills, knowledge and techniques required to remove, refit, or replace various components, such as vehicle body panels and any associated parts.

What You’ll Do
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of vehicle construction, tooling and equipment and repair processes, boding and riveting operations on Tesla vehicles, and awareness of how Body repair flow affects the production process
  • Carry out work in a manner compliant to EHS policies adhering to manufacturer and industry guidelines and ensure that all equipment used, including jigs, fixtures, and welding equipment, is operated in accordance with defined safety requirements
  • Identify damage to safety related components and take the appropriate actions for rectification
  • Remove, install, and replace any bolt on panels, bumpers, lamps and perform quality control checks for alignment, and perform all types of welding operations including aluminum MAG welding
  • Carry out cosmetic repairs on all Tesla models in accordance with the Tesla specific repair procedures, including basic body repair process, such as filler application and sanding down
  • Carry out complex repair processes to the vehicle structure, using advanced repair methods to ensure the vehicle is restored to its pre-accident condition
  • Support other Bodyshop departments on an as-needed basis (e.g., MET) and work with field technical specialists to further understand applicable service operations
  • Accurately assess the vehicle for pre-existing damage prior to work commencing and carry out all quality control aspect to the body repair process, ensuring wet checks of all filler repairs are complete prior to senior technician sign off
  • Ensure you meet daily target set out by the production manager, to ensure the vehicle meets it completion date
  • Responsible for inspecting vehicles to ensure they are restored to factory standards before delivery
  • Use various sheet metal tools and equipment correctly and do daily cleaning and maintenance
  • Have the ability to restore damaged metal or plastic plates to original factory standards, and have practical skills in adhesive riveting and resistance welding
  • Ability to stand, bend, squat, rotate, lift, and move using mechanical/hand tools while supporting items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • According to the factory technical specifications, the body, longitudinal beams, etc. are corrected, and the vehicle exterior parts, ribs, etc. are repaired
What You’ll Bring
  • Good communication: you are an extraordinary team player, can follow oral and written instructions with attention to detail and provide leadership and instructions to teammates – showcasing excellence within the refinish process
  • Have 5 or more years of experience as a sheet metal technician
  • Possess extensive knowledge of repair techniques and tools, and be able to complete vehicle body repairs in major accidents
  • Technical experience: you good understanding of tools & equipment used for all body repair processes, and have proven experience as a Body Repair Technician in a Bodyshop environment (prior body repair experience on Tesla vehicles is a plus)
  • Technical qualification: you have experience with adhesive bonding and mechanical fasteners (industry recognized accreditation is a plus)
  • Customer management: you are great with people! Our customer’s satisfaction is key and you are expected to communicate with them and answer questions about the repair order whenever needed
  • Adaptability: you are a fast learner and highly adaptable to working in an ever-changing environment
  • Problem-solving: you are well-organized and able to think ahead with solutions to challenges, being able to effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines
  • Leadership: you are able to develop and mentor more junior employees in your field
  • Mobility: you have a valid driving license and maintain a clear driving record
  • Motivation: you are highly motivated to deliver Tesla’s mission
