We are seeking highly motivated individuals to tackle manufacturing on a challenging new mass production line geared towards next generation cell production. You will be working alongside Engineers to develop an advanced new product and be among the first individuals to work on cutting edge manufacturing processes within Tesla. What You’ll Do
  • Coordinate design, assembly, install, and commission next generation calendaring, lamination, and slitting equipment
  • Closely collaborate with external equipment integrators on custom automation equipment, focusing on optimizing the design, layout, and function of the equipment
  • Generate machine qualification checklists and manage to install, commission, and start-up equipment balancing speed and safety
  • Drive ramp of new lines by characterizing and improving baseline performance and capability of each system as measured by product quality and tool availability
  • Development of the manufacturing process to use the equipment and ensure that all equipment, processes, and methodologies comply with applicable standards, company policy, and all Health and Safety Laws, Acts, Regulations and Codes
  • Collaborate with facility, EHS, electrical and design teams for space readiness and site-specific installation plans
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and develop specifications for custom automation equipment
  • Provide hands on assistance to resolve technical quality issues related to customer complaints, manufacturing, engineering, test methods, equipment, etc.
  • Create manufacturing introduction, machine instructions, and deliver training to operations and maintenance technicians to ensure and seamless handover of new equipment
What You’ll Bring
  • Experience in high volume equipment manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting, as well as extensive project management
  • Experience developing automated manufacturing equipment, fixturing, and tooling in 3D (SolidWorks preferred, Catia is also a plus)
  • Experience introducing new equipment and new processes into a production environment. Aptitude to learn and incorporate new technologies
  • Experience with LOTO and similar safety practices, as well as a drive to ensure your own and other’s safety at work
  • Experience documenting processes and procedures for manufacturing, maintenance, quality, etc.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent with 5+ years of relevant experience or equivalent experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (~5%)
  • Ability to perform hands-on tasks related to commissioning and maintenance
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing involving one or more of these areas is highly desired: Roll to roll processing, winding/rewinding, calendering/pressing, lamination, web handling, stamping, steel rolling/milling, aerospace/rocket engine hydraulics/mechanics, battery manufacturing (Li-ion, electrode, cathode, anode or other similar chemistries)
