Simulator Development Intern

Reporting to Manager, Natrium Simulator Development, the Simulator Development Intern is responsible for supporting the development of Training Simulator, Natrium (TSN). The Simulator Development Intern will be mentored and trained to perform various analyses to support modeling and simulation of the Natrium Plant Operations. The analyses may involve uses of existing in-house and commercial codes (such as RELAP5) or may involve generation of new codes or augmentation of existing codes. The candidate will also interface with the Safety Analysis, System Analysis and other design groups to collect design inputs for the simulation development.

Responsibilities

  • Use the simulator development tools to perform modeling and analysis work
  • Perform calculations using first principles of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics to support and validate analysis results
  • Coordinate with a wide range of design teams to collect design inputs for the simulator development
  • Document the simulator design work and test results
  • Review the modeling work developed by the simulator vendor and work with the vendor to resolve issues
  • Attend project team meetings with the design groups and simulator vendor
  • Support the development of the Human System Interface (HSI) design for the simulator

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • B.S. or M.S. in nuclear or other relevant engineering or currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Engineering
  • Strong knowledge in fundamentals of nuclear technologies
  • Strong thermal-hydraulic analytical skills with one dimensional hydraulic networks analysis, system codes experience and transient analysis
  • Experience with a RELAP5 code is highly desirable
  • Programming skills (e.g., FORTRAN, C/C++, Python etc.) and familiarity with database systems are preferred
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork

Undergraduate: $21.80 – $28.55

Graduate: $38.93 - $42.04
