PURPOSE:


The purpose of the Draughtsman role is to produce accurate, clear, and compliant technical drawings that translate engineering designs into construction-ready documentation. The role supports efficient project delivery by maintaining drawing quality and coordination across disciplines, while enabling engineers to focus on design and technical decision-making.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Formal Draughting qualification
  • Min. 2 years PV solar experience


PREFERRED SKILLS:


  • Autodesk, specifically AutoCAD
  • Able to work accurately and pays high attention to detail.
  • Able to learn something, understand it and apply your findings quickly.
  • Knowledge in Electrical or Renewable energy fields

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Draughtsperson
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Provide input and experiences to the department general manager to assist in setting standards and developing protocols.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities:


Draughting:

  • Carry out the drafting requirements for new or existing projects, including the drafting of plans detailed drawings for installations and construction projects.
  • Interpret instructions from Design Engineers regarding technical production of drawings.
  • Produce bills of materials from design drawings.
  • Translate standard and proprietary manufacturer's details onto working drawings.
  • Ensure the dimensional accuracy and compliance with available drawings and specifications of information issued.
  • May be required to scope various sites and take accurate and clear measurements.
  • Maintain and report on project document registers.
  • Reporting on the draughting jobs progress and drawing completion.
  • Clear communication about any variations or amendments plans.
  • Assist with troubleshooting in projects & AutoCAD for all engineers and draughtspersons.
  • Participate in all meetings from PR2 – Kick off of phase of the project through to construction handover.
  • Participate and give feedback in all weekly engineering and construction meetings.
  • Maintain weekly feedback to all engineers and project managers.
  • Maintain weekly drawing office meetings, updates, and feedback within the draughting team.
  • Give constructive advice for installation of the plant and all its requirements in all meetings.
  • Assist engineers with standard installation requirements and system details.
  • Review drawing sets issued to the approving engineering from the draughting team prior to construction approval to ensure all the requirements, standards and most practical methodology has been used for all the equipment and cables been installed.
  • Innovate the draughting process where it fits best to do so and aligning it with engineering standards and requirements.
  • Complete own projects in a timeous fashion.
  • Propose practical solutions where challenges my surface in the draughting team or engineering team.
  • Ensure all As-built drawings are completed and accurately recorded.
  • Be involved and set up the draughting team personal development and training;
