About The Role

The National Networks - Principal Lead plays a critical role in ensuring that the group operates effectively and delivers superior network experiences for our consumer and business customers.

In this role you ultimately support the 1-2-year strategic direction of the group, by promoting the achievement of profitable growth, continuous improvement and competitive advantage, and anticipating future trends and/or systemic challenges that have broad implications across the business.

You bring deep technical expertise and a breadth of telecommunications network experience across multiple domains, and have significant experience in managing people, operations, and processes at scale

Focus of the Role

Reporting to the Asset Management Executive, you will lead the Power Resilience function, a critical and emerging priority area focused on strengthening network resilience, energy strategy, and sustainability outcomes.

What You'll Do

You'll sit within a broader Asset Management portfolio spanning engineering, asset strategy, lifecycle management, property operations, infrastructure security, and power resilience - all critical to maintaining and evolving Telstra's national network footprint.

You will lead and influence how Telstra manages energy resilience at scale - shaping strategy, investment, and industry engagement to deliver meaningful outcomes across the network and broader ecosystem.

Applying a deep understanding of customer needs, emerging technology trends and agreed business strategies and objectives, to define the strategic priorities within your group/domain and develop business plan to deliver on those priorities. This includes contributing to cross-functional and/or organisation-wide strategic priorities as required

  • Leveraging significant experience and expertise to identify and manage planning, resourcing, and budget requirements over multi-year/OKR time horizons, to ensure complex, large-scale network technology projects are delivered successful within your domain and/or or cross-functionally
  • Directly shaping outcomes within your domain, by providing direction to the business regarding CAPEX/OPEX initiatives and investment decisions, new processes, policies, governance frameworks, and capacity management in line with appropriate capital and expenses
  • Leading continuous improvement and capability development initiatives within the domain. This includes, shaping the establishment of network engineering practice standards and frameworks to govern processes, methodologies, and procedures within the domain, and providing guidance and coaching to provide feedback and manage performance-related conversations as required.
  • Proactively identifying risks and barriers to the achievement of outcomes within your domain, and leading the development of a proactive and accountable culture, to reduce common causes of operational challenges
  • Providing guidance and direction to resolve problems and identify improvement opportunities within the network engineering domain. This includes synthesising broad organisational and domain knowledge and global best practices to define innovative solutions to new and complex process or technology constraints.
  • Leveraging strong inter-personal skills to authentically communicate with, influence, and collaborate across diverse functions, teams and internal/external stakeholder groups, to support decision-making and deliver strategic outcomes within their domain and/or cross-functionally

You will lead a diverse portfolio focused on energy resilience, investment oversight, and strategic coordination, including:

  • Industry & Government Engagement Lead national engagement across energy and infrastructure stakeholders, including government and CEO-level forums, to shape industry collaboration and operationalise critical information sharing.
  • Sustainability & Reporting Own energy and emissions reporting, including board reporting, climate disclosures, and delivery against Telstra's 2030 emissions targets.
  • Strategic Investment & Programs Oversee major resilience initiatives (e.g. multi-year programs), ensuring strong governance, reporting discipline and clear linkage between investment and business outcomes.
  • Technology & Innovation Enablement Drive innovation in energy solutions (e.g. batteries, alternative fuels), partnering with engineering teams to translate concepts into scalable, operational outcomes.
  • Risk & Resilience Leadership Identify and manage enterprise risks, embedding a proactive and accountable culture to improve network resilience and performance.
  • Cross-functional Influence Partner across Networks, Finance, Risk, and external stakeholders to align strategy, investment, and delivery.
