Internship - Environmental Philosophy and Fugitive Emissions - F/M
Job Description
Be part of the solution at Technip Energies and embark on a one-of-a-kind journey. You will be helping to develop cutting-edge solutions to solve real-world energy problems.
About us:
Technip Energies is a global technology and engineering powerhouse. With leadership position in LNG, hydrogen, ethylene, sustainable chemistry, and CO2 management, we are contributing to the development of critical markets such as energy, energy derivatives, decarbonization, and circularity. Our complementary business segments, Technology, Products and Services (TPS) and Project Delivery, turn innovation into scalable and industrial reality.
Through collaboration and excellence in execution, our 17,000+ employees across 34 countries are fully committed to bridging prosperity with sustainability for a world designed to last.
About the mission we offer you:
The internship will focus on two topics:
Topic 1: Development of a methodology for quantifying and reducing fugitive emissions from PIDs for an industrial project
Context:
In the context of energy transition and the fight against climate change, it is essential to assess the overall carbon footprint of a project from the design phase onwards, taking into account all sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Among these sources, fugitive emissions (mainly from equipment such as valves, flanges, fittings, pumps, and compressors) represent a significant portion of the carbon footprint of an industrial facility, particularly in the oil, gas, and chemical sectors.
These emissions can be estimated from engineering documents, in particular PIDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), which list all equipment and potential leak points. This approach also provides an opportunity to optimize the design to reduce these emissions at source, thereby contributing to a more favorable carbon footprint for the project.
Internship objectives:
Context:
The integration of environmental requirements from the design phase of an industrial project is essential to ensure regulatory compliance and limit the environmental footprint of facilities.
BAT (Best Available Techniques), defined in the European BREFs (Best Available Techniques Reference Documents), form the basis of European environmental requirements for each industrial sector.
Technip Energies works with a variety of clients in different industrial sectors, which requires adapting each environmental philosophy to the context of the project.
The drafting of a standard “environmental philosophy,” adaptable to each BAT, would ensure a consistent and structured approach for each new project, while facilitating communication with stakeholders (authorities, clients, project teams).
Internship objectives:
Starting Date : February or March 2026
Duration : 6 months
About you:
We love to hear from you and how you match with this position. To be successful in this mission you should consider the following requirements:
This internship is open to students in their final year of general engineering/process engineering/chemical engineering school, with a specialization in the environment or wishing to specialize in the environment in the industrial field.
All our offers are open to people with disabilities.
Your career with us
Working at Technip Energies is an inspiring journey, filled with groundbreaking projects and dynamic collaborations. Surrounded by diverse and talented individuals, you will feel welcomed, respected, and engaged. Enjoy a safe, caring environment where you can spark new ideas, reimagine the future, and lead change. As your career grows, you will benefit from learning opportunities at T.EN University, such as The Future Ready Program, Graduate Program, and from the support of your manager through check-in moments like the Mid-Year Development Review, fostering continuous growth and development.
What’s Next?
Once receiving your system application, our recruiting team will screen and match your skills, experience, and potential team fit against the role requirements. We ask for your patience as the team completes the volume of applications with reasonable timeframe. Check your application progress periodically via personal account from created candidate profile during your application.

Internship objectives:
- Methodology development: establish a systematic procedure for counting leakage points based on PIDs, drawing on existing standards (EPA, EN 15446, etc.).
- Quantification of emissions: apply standard emission factors to estimate the total fugitive emissions of a project based on the count performed.
- Calculation tool: develop a tool (Excel or other) to facilitate the identification, calculation, and traceability of emissions based on PIDs.
- Proposed design improvements: Analyze the results and propose a strategy for reducing fugitive emissions from the earliest design stages.

- Identify key requirements: extract the major environmental requirements to be integrated into the design for each BAT (air emissions, water management, waste, energy, noise, etc.), create a summary presentation for each BAT to present the context, main requirements, and key indicators.
- Study of environmental philosophies drafted by Technip Energies for various projects.
- Drafting of standard environmental philosophies: formalize, for each BAT, a standard document summarizing environmental requirements.
- Formatting and harmonization: propose a standardized format that is easy for environmental engineers to use and adaptable to different projects.
- Promotion and dissemination: presentation of standard philosophies to the HSED team.
