Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for an Electrical Engineer based in San Diego, CA. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing and analyzing electrical systems, working on power systems and distribution networks, and applying principles of electrical engineering to develop solutions. Duties include collaborating with cross-functional teams, troubleshooting system issues, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Electrical Design and a deep understanding of Electricity principles
  • Proficiency in Electrical Engineering and knowledge of Power Distribution
  • Expertise in Power Systems and related analysis
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Familiarity with industry standards and safety regulations
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or significant progress toward licensure is a plus
  • Experience with energy storage systems and renewable energy technologies is favorable

Electrical Engineer – PCB Design & Energy Storage Systems

Tecate Group is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer with expertise in PCB design and energy storage technologies to support the development of advanced electronic systems for innovative commercial, industrial, and emerging technology applications. This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced engineering environment focused on rapid development, prototyping, and product deployment. The job is based in the Tecate Group San Diego, CA headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate multilayer PCBs for embedded electronic systems and power management applications
  • Create schematics, PCB layouts, fabrication files, and engineering documentation using tools such as ORCAD or KiCad
  • Develop and integrate battery and/or supercapacitor-based energy storage systems
  • Support battery management system (BMS) design, testing, and optimization
  • Perform hardware bring-up, debugging, and root-cause analysis for prototype and production systems
  • Conduct circuit simulations, power analysis, thermal analysis, and signal integrity verification
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams including mechanical, manufacturing, and systems engineering
  • Support prototype builds, design reviews, and transition to manufacturing
  • Ensure designs meet reliability, safety and performance requirements
  • Assist with supplier selection, component evaluation, and technical documentation

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in electronic hardware development
  • Strong experience with PCB schematic capture and layout design
  • Experience working with batteries, charging systems, BMS architectures and/or supercapacitor technologies
  • Solid understanding of analog and digital circuit design
  • Familiarity with power electronics, DC/DC converters, and embedded systems
  • Proficiency using laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers
  • Knowledge of PCB manufacturing processes, DFM, and component selection
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic engineering environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace, robotics, industrial automation, EV, or renewable energy systems
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, I2C, or other communication protocols
  • Experience with low-power system design
  • Embedded firmware or microcontroller experience
  • Familiarity with UL, IEC, or other safety standards
  • Experience supporting rapid prototyping and testing
