General Counsel
The General Counsel will act as the primary legal resource for executive leadership, branch teams, operations, and field personnel, providing guidance on construction law and day‐to‐day operational matters. This individual will work closely with the current General Counsel for a 1–2 year transition period to ensure a smooth handoff of responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with internal departments—including Contracts/Risk Management, Operations, Accounting, IT, HR, and Project Management—to support business objectives and provide legal guidance.
- Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of construction‐related agreements, including upstream contracts with general contractors, subcontracts, purchase orders, and NDAs.
- Oversee the monthly process for filing lien and bond claim notices to preserve company rights.
- Coordinate with the parent company on real estate matters, parent guarantees, and quarterly representation requirements.
- Manage and monitor disputes, including litigation, claims, arbitrations, and mediations, while working closely with parent company counsel and outside counsel.
- Provide training and updates to internal teams on legal issues, compliance requirements, and changes in laws or regulations affecting the business.
Qualifications
- Active Texas law license with at least five years of experience focused on construction law.
- Background working within or closely alongside construction‐related organizations.
- Strong transactional experience, particularly in negotiating complex construction agreements.
- Ability to navigate negotiations with sophisticated counterparties while understanding the subcontractor perspective.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify risks and offer practical, business‐oriented solutions.
- Familiarity with insurance concepts relevant to the construction industry.
- Proven ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to adapt style based on audience and context.
- Comfortable leading or supporting as needed, with a collaborative and proactive approach.
- Thrives in an in‐office, fast‐paced, growth‐oriented environment.
- Highly organized, detail‐focused, and capable of managing multiple matters simultaneously under tight deadlines.
