Sizewell C is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for at least 60 years.

The Opportunity

The Sizewell C MEH Alliance is a project partnership responsible for the Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC (MEH) works on the Sizewell C nuclear power station, including the installation of piping, electrical systems, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems across the nuclear and conventional areas of the power station. The Sizewell C MEH Alliance is responsible for delivering the bulk of piping, HVAC and Electrical (Phase 1) as well as to perform the installation of equipment on Site (Phase 2).

We are currently in Phase 1 of the project which involves the design, procurement and delivery of mechanical, electrical and HVAC items on site. This phase encompasses a portfolio of opportunities involving IT, digitalisation, manufacturing, welding, non-destructive testing, modularisation, topography etc.

Such investigations in Phase 1 aim to reflect industrial best practice and deliver benefits to the project in Phase 2 (Installation of equipment on site).

As An Industrial Placement Student At Sizewell C, You Will Be Involved In The Phase 1 Of The Project (i.e. Engineering, Procurement And Delivery Of Mechanical, Electrical And HVAC Items On Site As Well As Preparation For Installation [Phase 2]). Your Tasks Will Include

  • Review industry best practices and perform benefits analysis (quality, time, and cost) to support delivery and integration of mechanical, electrical and HVAC items on site.
  • Conduct research and assess data from Hinkley Point C and other similar projects to refine the potential scope for deployment of opportunities, taking into consideration design criteria, safety and equipment & site layout. This will involve assessing quality and suitability of methods and technics used in the mechanical, electrical and HVAC installation works on site
  • Identify and assess potential options for implementation (e.g. building, room, type of supports, technology for 3D scan) and present your recommendations to the project
  • Liaise with relevant Subject Matter Experts to gather all inputs required to progress with opportunity assessment
