About the Role
This role owns the commercial and technical health of a scaling BESS and solar-plus-storage portfolio. It starts with a deep audit of every offtake, tolling, and interconnection obligation, then grows into full ownership of BESS operations, compliance, and performance, with a path to building and leading a dedicated asset management function.
Responsibilities
- Manage offtake, tolling, and other commercial contracts across a growing BESS and solar-plus-storage portfolio, protecting value and compliance.
- Administer LTSAs, O&M, and interconnection agreements, covering performance tracking, invoicing, and warranty claims.
- Apply hands-on BESS hardware expertise (cells, modules, PCS/inverters, BMS/EMS, thermal management, fire suppression) to guide maintenance with OEM and O&M partners.
- Drive merchant market participation and revenue optimization, and lead commercial diligence on new agreements and acquisitions.
- Own performance reporting and risk assessment for the portfolio, with a clear path to build and lead a dedicated BESS asset management function.
Qualifications
- 3+ years managing BESS assets commercially, through asset management, origination, or a similar ownership role.
- Experience with offtake, interconnection, tolling, O&M, LTSAs, and merchant hedge structures such as TB2 swaps.
- Technical grounding in BESS systems: battery chemistry, cell/module architecture, PCS/inverters, BMS/EMS, thermal management, and codes like NFPA 855 and UL 9540A.
- Track record in merchant power markets and ISO participation, translating technical performance data into commercial decisions.
- Strong negotiation skills and comfort collaborating across engineering, trading, legal, and operations; background in engineering, finance, or business, graduate degree a plus.
