With strong revenue growth, recent capital raising, and a product evolution underway, Avarni is entering its next phase of scale - and this role is central to that journey.
The Role
Reporting to Co-founder & CEO, the Sustainability Lead will sit at the front line of delivering Avarni’s exceptional bespoke service to customers. This is a high-impact, client-facing role responsible for onboarding and managing a portfolio of enterprise and mid-market Australian organisations implementing mandatory sustainability reporting under AASB S2 and ASRS.
You will operate as both a subject matter expert and strategic advisor - guiding finance and compliance teams through carbon accounting (Scope 1-3), ensuring audit-readiness, and embedding best-practice reporting processes through Avarni’s platform.
As the company scales, you will also play a key role in shaping the Customer Success function and feeding client insights directly into product strategy.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead onboarding and implementation for new Australian customers, managing multiple concurrent engagements
- Act as the sustainability SME, advising clients on GHG Protocol, Scope 1-3 emissions and AASB S2 compliance
- Support customers in preparing audit-ready carbon disclosures and responding to methodology queries
- Run regular check-ins, strengthen executive-level relationships, and ensure renewals are earned through value delivery
- Translate customer feedback into actionable product insights, working closely with the CEO and product team
- Communicate and demonstrate new platform features and drive adoption
- Build scalable customer success processes as onboarding volumes increase
About You
You are a technically strong sustainability professional who enjoys working in the detail, but equally thrives in front of CFOs, finance teams and senior sustainability decision-makers.
You likely come from a sustainability consulting, audit or advisory background (Big 4, mid-tier or specialist firm), and have hands-on experience with enterprise clients navigating carbon accounting and climate disclosure requirements.
You are structured, highly organised, commercially aware, and excited by the opportunity to help scale a high-growth Australian ClimateTech business.
Required Skills and Proficiencies
- 3+ years’ experience in sustainability consulting, carbon accounting, climate reporting, or ESG advisory
- Strong knowledge of GHG Protocol and climate disclosure frameworks (TCFD, AASB S2 / ASRS)
- Experience supporting audit processes or preparing audit-ready sustainability disclosures
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex client engagements simultaneously
- Strong executive-level communication and stakeholder management skills
- High attention to detail with strong data and project management capability
- Australian citizenship or permanent working rights
