About The Role
TaiSan is developing next-generation polymer electrolyte systems to enable Sodium Batteries 2.0 — targeting higher energy density, improved safety, and scalable manufacturing.
We are seeking a Patent & Intellectual Property Counsel to support the protection, structuring, and strategic development of TaiSan’s intellectual property portfolio across materials chemistry, polymer electrolytes, battery architectures, and manufacturing methods.
This role will work closely with the scientific, engineering, and leadership teams to identify patentable innovations, draft and file patent applications, and develop a robust IP strategy supporting TaiSan’s long-term technological and commercial roadmap.
The role is particularly suited to professionals with experience in deep-tech patents, materials science, electrochemistry, or energy technologies, and an interest in supporting frontier innovation in climate-tech and advanced battery systems.
The scope of the role may evolve depending on the candidate’s technical background, jurisdictional expertise, and strategic experience.

Work Closely With TaiSan’s Research Team To
Identify patentable inventions
Translate scientific breakthroughs into defensible IP claims
Draft clear and technically accurate patent specifications
Coordinate national and international patent filings (UKIPO, EPO, USPTO, WIPO/PCT).
Manage Patent Prosecution Processes Including
Office action responses
Examiner communications
Amendments and claim strategy.
Patent portfolio structuring
Technology landscaping
Freedom-to-operate (FTO) assessments
Competitive IP monitoring
Identify Opportunities For Strategic Patent Positioning Around
Core polymer electrolyte chemistry
Cell architecture innovations
Manufacturing pathways
Battery system integration
Advise leadership on defensive and offensive IP strategies to support TaiSan’s commercialization roadmap.
Conduct invention disclosure reviews
Capture emerging research breakthroughs
Support structured IP documentation
Assist in developing internal IP capture workflows to ensure early identification of patentable ideas.
Provide guidance on confidentiality, prior art risks, and publication strategy.

Required
Qualified Patent Attorney, Patent Lawyer, or IP Counsel with experience in technology or scientific patents.
Strong ability to translate technical concepts into patent claims.
Experience with patent drafting and prosecution.
Familiarity with international patent frameworks (e.g., PCT, EPO, USPTO).
Strong analytical and structured thinking skills.
Excellent written communication skills.
Ability to work closely with technical teams and early-stage startup environments.
Interest in energy storage, electrochemistry, advanced materials, or climate-tech innovation.
Preferred
Background in chemistry, materials science, electrochemistry, or engineering.
Experience with battery technologies or energy systems.
Experience supporting deep-tech startups or research commercialization.
Familiarity with technology landscape analysis and FTO assessments.
