Job Description

Want to turn bold environmental priorities into a compelling, positive forward-looking vision for Europe, build on cross-sectoral civil society and broader stakeholder engagement?

A strategic environmental alliance uniting BirdLife Europe (BL), the European Environmental Bureau (EEB), Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe, WWF European Policy Office, and Transport & Environment (T&E)—is looking for a passionate, strategic, and proactive Senior Alliance Coordinator. The goal of this collaboration is to build on our individual organizations’ activities and plans, and jointly design and deliver a pan-European mobilization that places policy action on climate, nature and pollution firmly back on the agenda of the EU by 2030. By mobilizing our networks, membership, and partners, as well as pooling resources and fundraising efforts, we work towards a common vision that allows for broad societal support and surpasses the interests of our individual organizations.

As Senior Alliance Coordinator we are looking for a true movement builder and practical "do-er" with direct guidance from our five Directors. You will step into a fast-paced environment to align multiple moving pieces, bridge organizational cultures, and co-create a long-term strategic campaign that drives Europe's environmental priorities forward. Hosted administratively by one of our alliance partners in Brussels (T&E), you will benefit from an innovative, flexible working model—spending time embedded across the different offices of our member organizations to truly connect our community.

Key responsibilities

  • Alliance strategy & movement building: Ensure a smooth running of the Alliance’ and its day-to-day work. Act as the central dot-connector and organizer for the Alliance and its partners. Turn high-level strategic input from the Alliance’ members into actionable, long-term advocacy or campaign strategies.
  • Project & coalition coordination: Serve as the primary project manager of the alliance. Ensure timely delivery of various deliverables of the workplan and existing grant agreements and possible new ones and manage the core team, coordinating activities across wider staff working on the different workstreams
  • Advocacy preparation and facilitation: Proactively identify policy windows and coordinate the draft and approval processes for joint alliance materials, including briefings, letters, and target-driven advocacy strategies.
  • Internal representation & community mobilization: Build exchange platforms for the 5 networks and its members from across Europe whilst maintaining a deep understanding of the diverse organizational sensibilities and policy priorities across the 5 networks.
  • Fundraising support: Assist the Alliance in scaling up its reach and capacity at EU and national levels by drafting proposals, creating pitches, and conducting follow-ups with major funders.
  • Agile administration: Manage the essential day-to-day coordination, scheduling, and administrative upkeep required to keep a multi-stakeholder Alliance running seamlessly.

Essential requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in developing and coordinating large campaigns, working with civil society and multiple groups across different countries with excellent project management skills.
  • A "Do-er" mindset: A proven track record of taking complex, multi-stakeholder ideas and turning them into practical, impactful execution plans with strong commitment to civil society and environment.
  • Diplomatic interpersonal instincts: Experience working with c-level or board with an ability to take on board different strategic inputs and develop them into a coherent strategy.
  • Organized and autonomous: High level of reliability and the proactive drive to manage a secretariat independently without needing detailed day-to-day management. That includes:
  • -Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • -Excellent project management skills
  • (Political) campaign savvy: Strong interest in politics and good grasp of European decision making, especially revolving around the College of Commissioner, Council of the EU and European Council, EU election process

Nice to have:

  • Savvy handling of different office platforms as well as campaign and project-management tools

do we want to note total relevant experience? i initially took this to be 5 years NGO experience, but later see ref to director level...so there is some ambiguity (at least at the level of interpretation/quick reading).
