- $130 hourly Contractor Work Model: Remote We are seeking a highly skilled and specialized Lead Manufacturing Engineer to for a long-term contract opportunity.
This crucial role involves collaborating with design engineers to integrate manufacturing and construction considerations into design processes.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal part in the development and execution of manufacturing strategies, supporting equipment commissioning planning and enhancing the overall design framework for innovative fuel handling systems.
Key Responsibilities: Collaborate closely with the Fuel Handling Senior Manager to synchronize design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for build (DFB), including comprehensive support for equipment commissioning planning.
Review and refine technical documents, including narratives pertaining to fuel handling equipment and systems, to ensure alignment with manufacturing standards.
Develop flow diagrams representing manufacturing, maintenance, and operational processes to facilitate clear communication among teams.
Provide expert technical direction and guidance to engineering teams in compliance with applicable nuclear-related design and operational standards.
Oversee fabrication and delivery efforts for essential fuel handling and maintenance equipment—including transporters, tanks, casks, floor valves, adapters, and ancillary support equipment.
Interface with various design disciplines (mechanical, instrumentation and controls, civil, nuclear) to conduct manufacturability assessments of equipment and systems, ensuring seamless integration.
Recommend design modifications to enhance manufacturability, testing, and construction activities within the plant environment.
Actively support design reviews at various stages of system and subsystem development to ensure adherence to project goals and specifications.
Key Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university.
Minimum of 15 years of extensive experience demonstrating proven nuclear technical expertise.
Strong background in the design and operation of complex mechanical systems and nuclear fuel handling systems; prior experience with nuclear reactors or similar high-performance systems is essential.
Exceptional technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
Current or previously qualified nuclear plant operator (EOOW, SRO, STE, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
Experience managing or working in machine shop operations.
Self-starter with a proactive attitude and the ability to contribute effectively to a design team with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing objectives and resolve conflicts in design criteria.
Proficient in executing concurrent tasks requiring a multi-disciplinary approach.
Familiarity with quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
A high degree of integrity and trustworthiness, with excellent interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and open communication.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, and perform fine motor actions.
Minimal physical exertion expected, with the capacity to lift up to 20 pounds safely.
Job entails repetitive tasks and visual/audit-intensive work.
Standard office working environment exceeding eight hours per day, including keyboard activities.
Occasional travel required, estimated at 5-10%.
