Position Summary
The Senior Solar Engineering Manager will lead Symx’s renewable energy engineering team—including in-house staff, third-party firms, and consultants—in the design, implementation, and optimization of utility-scale solar farm projects. This role blends deep technical expertise with strong leadership to deliver high-performance solar power solutions that meet quality, schedule, and budget requirements.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design
Lead engineering efforts for utility-scale solar projects, including:
Single line diagrams
Civil, structural, and electrical site plans
DC and AC wiring diagrams
Equipment layouts, performance measurement, and testing
Apply construction-focused solar design knowledge, including:
PV string sizing
DC and AC conductor and conduit sizing
Racking and tracker design and power requirements
Maintain hands-on knowledge of current solar and battery storage technologies, including:
Solar modules
Inverters and transformers
Racking and tracker systems
Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
Review scopes of work and specification documents and analyze design impacts.
Project Execution & Oversight
Own assigned portions of the project lifecycle from design through construction support.
Manage third-party engineering firms, consultants, designers, surveyors, subject matter experts, and owner’s engineers from project inception to completion.
Develop, review, and approve:

As-Built drawing packages
Administer document control and RFI processes.
Assist with monthly reporting and maintain project management systems (CMiC).
Obtain required home office approvals for policy waivers.
Collaboration & Field Support
Foster strong relationships with subcontractors, design teams, and project owners.
Interface with cross-functional teams including procurement, construction, and operations.
Provide technical support to field and construction teams.
Travel cross-country as needed for site visits and on-site technical support.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and mentor a team of solar engineers and technical specialists through all project phases, from initial design through commissioning.
Provide technical mentorship and professional development opportunities for engineering team members.
Promote continuous improvement in engineering processes, standards, and methodologies.
Business & Strategic Support
Develop and review engineering deliverables, including technical specifications, design documents, and project plans.
Ensure all installations comply with applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards.
Optimize solar farm efficiency, reliability, and production through technical solutions.
Manage engineering budgets and resource allocation across multiple large-scale projects.
Support business development teams by providing technical input during proposal development.
Maintain relationships with equipment suppliers and technology partners.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Work Experience
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, a technical field, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in:
Solar construction or
Engineering management on solar construction projects
(Solar experience is required.)
Strong knowledge of:
Civil, mechanical, electrical, and power systems design
Solar and energy storage systems
Utility interconnection requirements
Proven ability to manage complex design documentation across multiple systems.
Familiarity with CAD workflows and construction standards.
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly present technical information using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred / Plus
Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Experience with QGIS or other GIS software.
Experience with Autodesk Fusion or other 3D design software.
Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) as applied to utility-scale power plants.
