Sustainable Projects Group (SPG) is transforming how existing buildings are managed and upgraded. We combine consulting, software, engineering design, and construction to decarbonize the built environment and create lasting value for our clients.

We are building a national, retrofit-focused, tech-enabled engineering and construction team designed to deliver projects at scale. Our work is practical, capital-plan aligned, and tightly integrated with SPG’s consulting and software services. This Project Manager role is critical to delivering projects safely, efficiently, and consistently from early planning through construction closeout.


Position Summary

Location: Edmonton, AB (preferred) - Hybrid/Remote; Calgary, AB or Vancouver, BC may be considered


SPG is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support our growing Engineering & Construction team. This role is responsible for managing retrofit projects across the full project lifecycle, from early estimating and planning through design coordination, construction execution, and closeout.


You will collaborate closely with engineers, estimators, construction partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and in alignment with client objectives. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, highly organized, and comfortable operating in design-build environments where clarity, accountability, and adaptability are essential.


This role suits someone with an entrepreneurial mindset who can operate independently, manage distributed teams, and help build scalable project management practices as SPG continues to grow.


Key Responsibilities

1. Project Delivery & Execution

  • Manage retrofit projects from initiation through construction completion and closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and work plans.
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, and construction activities to ensure alignment across teams.
  • Track project progress, risks, issues, and change orders.
  • Ensure projects meet contractual, quality, safety, and performance requirements.


2. Planning, Controls & Documentation

  • Lead project planning, scope definition, and execution strategies.
  • Maintain clear and accurate project documentation aligned with PMP-style standards.
  • Support early estimating and budgeting efforts in collaboration with engineering and estimating teams.
  • Manage project reporting, forecasts, and status updates for internal and client stakeholders.


3. Cross-Functional & Client Coordination

  • Act as the primary point of coordination between internal teams, consultants, contractors, and clients.
  • Facilitate design reviews, constructability discussions, and execution planning.
  • Support client communications by clearly articulating scope, schedule, risks, and decisions.
  • Build trust through proactive communication and reliable delivery.


4. Construction & Field Support

  • Support construction execution, including site coordination and issue resolution.
  • Review of drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Participate in site visits as required to support project delivery and quality control.
  • Assist with commissioning, deficiency management, and project closeout activities.


5. Process Improvement & Team Growth

  • Support the development of standardized project management tools, templates, and workflows.
  • Help improve consistency, clarity, and scalability across project delivery.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, accountable, and solution-oriented team culture.


What We’re Looking For

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Project Manager.
  • Experience with the full project lifecycle (estimating, construction & execution to project closeout).
  • Experience managing retrofit projects and working in design-build environments.
  • Strong understanding of project management processes and documentation.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and review engineering and construction drawings.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites as required.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (proof of documentation may be requested)


Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience managing remote or distributed teams.
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • PMP certification or similar project management credential.
  • Experience with Bluebeam.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools for reporting and coordination.
  • Experience managing project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, and progress billing” under the responsibilities or preferred skills.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities and/or non-profit organizations is considered an asset.
