Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Engineer / Field Quality and Customer Success, this new position will play a significant role to support and deploy strategic quality initiatives across business processes, new products, quality management systems, and approved vendor qualifications. This position will play an important role in assessing field quality, job closeouts (JCO) and PTO.
We are looking for an experienced quality engineer to support these efforts through SPECs, 8D / RCCA, FMEA, Industry UL / IEC Certifications. Serve as the key quality engineer for New Homes Business Division for SPEC systems with highest quality standards. Team player, result-oriented, and hands-on driver. Has a positive, optimistic, “can-do” attitude and willing to work at every level with no ego. Wants to win and manage effectively on both the strategic and tactical issues – and ready to switch between the two. Possess strong collaborative and team building skills and ability to motivate others.
Essential Duties:
- Play a vital role to support and deploy strategic quality initiatives across business processes, quality management systems and approved vendor approvals.
- Deploy Concept of Zero Defects and RCCA / 8D, Six Sigma and First Pass Yields.
- Develop measurable quality standards and work with Design, Operations to ensure that these standards are incorporated throughout product/business life cycle.
- Ensure that Quality Systems and processes are scalable and flexible.
- Collaborate on advanced product quality plans (APQP) and methodologies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum BS degree in Industrial Engineering / Mechanical Engineering with 7 to 10 years of related work experience in solar or semiconductor or automobile industry.
- Certified Quality Engineer, via ASQ. Hands-on Quality Audit Skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of UL and IEC Certification, and Renewable Technologies.
- Adherence to the US Department of Energy Foundational Specs, Codes, and Standards for safe and reliable solar installations.
- Demonstrated skills/background in producing high-quality, on-time products with an emphasis on continuous improvement, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

- The quality engineering role requires to be co-located at SunPower, UT.
- Operational excellence skills, incl. First Pass Yields and Solar Installation Process.

- Experience and knowledge in a broad range of high-tech industrial best practices and operations and solar installation methods.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Regular periods of sitting or standing may be required by this position. In addition, this position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
