Job Summary:

The Associate General Counsel will serve as support to the Chief Legal Officer and to the company's leadership team. This is a salaried, full-time position will ability to work partially or entirely on-site in Orem, UT. Fully remote is a possibility. SunPower is looking for skilled attorneys with backgrounds in areas such as transactional law, litigation, intellectual property, consumer finance, securities, and other areas of the law applicable to a publicly-traded, consumer-focused, renewable energy company. Applicants should expect that the position requires flexibility and agility, including potentially working odd hours as required by business demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Program Support and Contract Management:
  • Oversee the negotiation, drafting, and execution of contracts with suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders related to residential solar energy projects.
  • Manage risk by advising on the structure of business development projects and form business program agreements.
  • Litigation and Dispute Resolution:
  • Oversee and manage litigation matters, disputes, and claims involving the company, working with external counsel when necessary.
  • Develop strategies for dispute resolution, including negotiation, mediation, or settlement.
  • Risk Management:
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with the company's operations and projects.
  • Develop internal policies and procedures to protect the company from legal and financial exposure.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Act as the primary liaison between the company and its external legal advisors, investors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Represent the company in industry forums and regulatory proceedings.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Certification:
    • J.D from an accredited U.S. law school
    • A license to practice law from a U.S. state
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3+ years of legal experience
      • Experience in the residential solar industry or renewables is ideal but not required.
    • Backgrounds in transactional law, litigation, intellectual property, consumer finance, securities, and other areas of the law applicable to publicly traded, consumer-focused, renewable energy company.
  • Skills:
    • Strong communication skills, good judgement, and common sense.
    • Complete legal and business research projects and other tasks quickly and thoroughly.
    • Effectively manage outside counsel.
    • In-depth understanding of solar energy market dynamics, federal and state regulations, and the energy industry's legal environment.
    • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience leading and mentoring legal teams.
    • Strong business acumen, able to advise on strategic decisions from a legal perspective.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a high-growth solar energy or renewable energy company.
  • Prior in-house experience is ideal.
  • Capable of working across a wide variety of legal practice areas and with many non-lawyers across SunPower's various business units.
  • Familiarity with tax incentives, government subsidies, and policy-related issues affecting solar energy.
