Investment & Technical Assessment Manager - Renewable Energy & Infrastructure (Germany)
Key Responsibilities
1. End-to-end investment and technical assessment for renewable energy projects in Germany
Evaluate potential PV, wind, energy storage and AIDC infrastructure investments throughout the project acquisition lifecycle, from initial screening and feasibility assessment to due diligence, investment approval and transaction closing. Assess project viability, investment attractiveness and key technical and commercial risks.
2. Financial modeling and project valuation
Develop, maintain and independently review financial models for renewable energy investments, incorporating project-specific CAPEX, OPEX, revenue forecasts, financing structures, cash flows, IRR, NPV and investment returns. Perform sensitivity analyses and scenario modeling to support project valuations, investment offers and acquisition decisions.
3. German market assumptions and commercial analysis
Develop and validate financial assumptions specific to the German renewable energy market, including electricity price forecasts, merchant revenues, BESS trading strategies, ancillary services, grid fees, regulatory frameworks and project-specific operating costs. Assess the impact of market developments and regulatory changes on project economics and investment returns.
4. Technical assessment and project due diligence
Conduct technical assessments of potential project acquisitions, including installed capacity, system configuration, equipment specifications, grid connection, energy yield, efficiency, degradation and operational performance. Identify technical risks and evaluate their financial implications, coordinating with external technical advisors where required.
5. Investment due diligence and transaction support
Lead and coordinate financial and technical due diligence workstreams for potential project acquisitions. Review project documentation, technical reports, financial assumptions and third-party assessments. Identify material risks, quantify their potential impact on project valuation and support commercial negotiations with developers and project sellers.
6. Investment reporting and cross-functional collaboration
Prepare investment cases, financial assessments, risk reports and recommendations for German management and headquarters in China. Collaborate closely with Business Development, Engineering, EPC, Finance and external advisors to support investment decisions and the expansion of Sungrow Renewables' German project portfolio.
Job Requirements
1. Education Background
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Engineering, Energy Economics, Business Administration or a related field, ideally combining technical and financial expertise.
2. Professional Experience
Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in renewable energy investments, project finance, financial modeling, technical advisory, project development or a comparable role. Previous experience with utility-scale PV/Wind and BESS projects in Germany.
3. Financial Modeling & Investment Analysis
Strong financial modeling skills, including advanced Excel proficiency and experience with project valuation, investment returns, sensitivity analyses and project finance models. Ability to independently develop and validate financial assumptions for renewable energy investments.
4. Technical Competencies
Solid technical understanding of utility-scale PV/Wind and BESS projects, including system design, grid connection, equipment specifications, performance parameters and operational requirements. Ability to translate technical project characteristics and constraints into financial assumptions and investment implications.
5. German Energy Market Knowledge
Good understanding of the German renewable energy market, electricity market dynamics, relevant regulatory frameworks and project economics. Familiarity with BESS revenue modeling, merchant exposure, ancillary services and German grid connection requirements is a strong advantage.
6. Language Skills
Fluent working English for financial analysis, investment reporting and international business communication. Professional German proficiency required.
7. Core Competencies & Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, commercial awareness and attention to detail. Ability to independently assess investment opportunities and communicate complex financial and technical findings to non-technical stakeholders. Strong cross-cultural communication skills and willingness for occasional business travel.
