ESG / Sustainability Officer

Experience: 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in ESG, sustainability, climate, consulting, manufacturing, mobility, or infrastructure sectors.
1. Position Purpose
The ESG Officer will be responsible for institutionalizing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) systems across SUN Mobility by driving implementation of the company’s ESG strategy, Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP), climate and GHG management programs, ESG reporting, policy compliance, and cross-functional ESG performance monitoring.
The role will ensure alignment with applicable Indian regulatory requirements, investor expectations, and global ESG frameworks.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. ESG Strategy Implementation and Governance
- Drive execution of the company’s ESG strategy and annual ESG roadmap across business units.
- Monitor implementation of ESAP actions and track completion status through dashboards and internal reporting mechanisms.
- Support the development and functioning of ESG governance structures, including internal ESG committees and working groups.
- Conduct annual materiality assessments and align ESG goals with Sun Mobility’s business objectives.
- Establish ESG Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) aligned with business strategy and regulatory expectations.
B. Environmental and Climate Management
- Lead preparation and maintenance of the corporate GHG inventory (Scopes 1, 2, and relevant Scope 3 categories) in accordance with recognised standards (GHG Protocol).
- Coordinate with operations, engineering, procurement, and facilities teams to identify and implement emissions-reduction and energy-efficiency initiatives.
- Track environmental performance indicators, including energy consumption, waste management, water use, and resource efficiency.
- Monitor environmental regulatory requirements and support compliance with applicable Indian environmental laws and regulatory reporting obligations.
- Conduct operational compliance related site audits at swapping stations to ensure environmental safety standards.
C. Social and Workforce ESG Programs
- Support the implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, including gender diversity improvement programs.
- Monitor workforce ESG indicators, including occupational health and safety metrics, training hours, workforce diversity, grievance mechanisms, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Coordinate implementation of responsible supply-chain ESG initiatives, including supplier ESG engagement and grievance mechanisms.
- Support compliance with applicable labour regulations, workplace safety requirements, and workplace dignity and harassment-prevention frameworks (including POSH Act compliance coordination where relevant).
D. ESG Reporting and Disclosures
- Lead preparation of ESG and sustainability disclosures aligned with applicable reporting frameworks such as Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR), investor ESG disclosures, and internal sustainability reporting.
- Coordinate ESG data collection processes across departments and ensure data quality, documentation, and audit readiness. Manage the data collection platform (e.g., Power BI or specialized ESG software) for quarterly reporting.
- Support responses to ESG questionnaires from investors, lenders, customers, and ratings agencies.
- Assist in the preparation of sustainability presentations and ESG performance updates for senior leadership and the Board. Act as the primary point of contact for ESG auditors and investors (e.g., Bosch, SUN Group).
E. ESG Policies, Risk Management, and Compliance
- Support periodic review and updating of ESG-related corporate policies and procedures. Update corporate policies to align with ESAP requirements and global standards (IFC, GRI).
- Track emerging ESG regulatory developments in India and relevant international markets affecting the company’s operations.
- Assist in the identification and monitoring of ESG risks and opportunities and integrate them into enterprise risk management processes.
- Support ESG-related internal awareness programs and employee capacity-building initiatives.
3. Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree / Post-graduate qualification in Sustainability, Environmental Management, Climate Policy, Engineering, Management, or related fields.
- 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in ESG, sustainability, climate, consulting, manufacturing, mobility, or infrastructure sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in ESG reporting, sustainability program implementation, or climate/GHG accounting preferred.
- Familiarity with Indian regulatory frameworks such as BRSR reporting expectations, environmental regulations, labour compliance systems, and ESG disclosure standards is desirable.
4. Key Skills and Competencies
- Strong project management and cross-functional coordination capability.
- Knowledge of ESG reporting standards, climate risk concepts, and sustainability metrics.
- Analytical and data-management skills with the ability to interpret ESG performance indicators.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for leadership and external stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work across multiple departments and influence stakeholders at different organisational levels.
