Wildlife Survey Individual Placement at Klamath National Forest
Position Summary
The Goosenest Ranger District, Klamath National Forest, is seeking a candidate to become an SCA member and to serve as a Wildlife Survey Intern who will assist U.S. Forest Service Biologists and other SCA members with conducting various wildlife surveys. Duties include day and night monitoring of various wildlife species including northern spotted owl, barred owl, and northern goshawk. Other duties include conducting bald eagle nest checks, follow up visits to nighttime owl responses, recording data on field forms and taking accurate notes in field notebook, using GPS and map with compass to navigate in a remote forested setting. Other opportunities if times allows include Swainson's hawk surveys/banding, remote camera stations surveys, and autonomous recording units (ARUs) for bats and owls.

Required Qualifications
Applicants are preferably studying wildlife biology or a related discipline. Interns must be prepared to handle working in all weather conditions and strenuous hiking. Good physical fitness is required. Be sure to bring a heavy coat, 6-inch hiking boots, hat, gloves. You may be asked to survey in the rain, or hike in the snow. Owl surveys occur at night. Cell phone use and iPod/headphones use is not allowed during surveys, but fine at other times. Valid driver’s license required.
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Compensation
- $375/week living allowance*
- $1,100 travel allowance (Personal vehicle required for shopping, weekends, exploring the area) *
- $1,956 AmeriCorps Education Award upon completion of no less than 450 hours of service
- The two allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes
