UCF School Year Crew Member

Position Summary

This workforce development program offers DC metro area high school students environmental education and hands-on experience in urban forestry. Topics include forest health, tree biology, citizen science, and tree preservation. Activities involve tree maintenance, community events, canvassing, and citizen science, focusing on conservation, stewardship, green jobs, and environmental justice.

Schedule

November 4, 2024 - March 28, 2025

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Participate in outdoor environmental education; Work collaboratively with team members completing outdoor hands-on projects in urban forestry; Learn new skills in tree maintenance, tool use, and community engagement; Community service and tabling events; Participate in career builder activities

Marginal Duties

Participate in environmental education learning activities; Complete feedback surveys; Participate in professional development sessions like career panels, SMART Goal planning, and Leave No Trace training

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements
  • Must be a minimum of 15 years of age, currently enrolled in high school or graduating senior, and able to attain a work permit
  • Must have the ability to legally work in the US
  • Must be able to complete SCA online onboarding new hire paperwork in a timely manner

Preferred Qualifications

  • Outdoor work experience a plus
  • Experience working in a team
  • Open to learning new skills, more about conservation, and environmental education

Hours

8 per week

Living Accommodations

NONE-Housing will not be provided for this position.

Compensation

$15.00/hourly; Bi-weekly pay

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
