Urban Green- DC Urban Tree House Member
Position Summary
SCA's DC Urban Tree House (UTH) Program is based out of Anacostia Park in Washington, DC, and provides free environmental education programs for DC area youth (K-12). The program gives DC youth the opportunity to have fun experiences in nature, become aware of their relationship with the environment, and participate in hands-on conservation projects. The UTH Team consists of 1 Leader, 1 Senior Member, and 6 Volunteer High School Interns.
Projects may include:
1) Develop and implement environmental education lessons, games, and activities to K-12 youth under SCA guidance and support
2) Leading nature hikes throughout the local trails
3) Community outreach and stewardship
4) Support local partner events at Anacostia Park

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Help deliver lessons and activities to youth and young adults K-12 during the 2024 Summer Urban Tree House Program; Participate in service-learning volunteer opportunities; Learn about local stewardship
Marginal Duties
SMART Goals; Letter of Reflection; Program Feedback Surveys; Member Reflection Survey; Help develop content for the Urban Tree House social media posts and outreach
Required Qualifications
Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements; Must be a minimum of 15 years of age, currently enrolled in high school or graduating senior; Must have the ability to legally work in the US; Must be able to meet SCA's criminal background check standards if 18+ by the start of the program; Must be able to attend program orientation before start date
Preferred Qualifications
Outdoor work experience a plus; Experience working with youth and young adults
Hours
40 per week
Living Accommodations
No housing provided; Members must have reliable housing in place prior to start date
Compensation
Members are volunteers and log community service hours applicable towards graduation community service hours; Members do not receive monetary pay for this position
