Cultural Landscapes Intern

Position Summary

Intern will work with and assist preservation professionals to complete cultural resource surveys and inventories of cultural landscapes and historic structures. The internship will involve using technology to document resources at a variety of National Park sites in the Washington, DC metropolitan area (District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia). The internships will involve site visits and field work to document the existing conditions with laser scanning and GPS data; processing data from field visits in GIS; assisting with the creation of web mapping applications; and entering the information into a database.

Schedule

December 16, 2024 - July 25, 2025

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Create GIS work associated with Cultural Landscape studies. GIS work will focus on individual features and resources, many of which are historic structures but can also be landscape features.

Marginal Duties

Interface with regional preservation services program staff; work with park staff.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

graduate degree in historic preservation, anthropology, or allied field.

20 per week

Living Accommodations

Work is in the Washington DC larger metro area. No housing comes with the position.

Compensation

SCA rate

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
