Digital Education Coordinator

Position Summary

Are you interested in helping connect students across the country with national parks? Do you want to work on virtual field trips? The Digital Education Program Individual Placement supports Pre-K-12 education programming at the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. This program serves more than 2,000 students each year. Virtual programs focus on history, STEM, and environmental science.

Location

The position will be stationed at Potomac, MD or Williamsport, MD.

September 8, 2025 - November 24, 2025

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Individual placement duties involve the creation and management of digital education resources, such as distance learning field trip programs, the park website, and the park social media team. Placements will complete at least one education-related project, which could include: development of new education programs, content research, and updating existing digital education materials. The position will be stationed at Potomac, MD or Williamsport, MD, and will report daily to the park's Education Program Manager.

Marginal Duties

This opportunity is meant to provide knowledge and experience that allows for future success in multiple fields. The placements will gain skills in 21st Century education practices; customer service; digital media (video, photography, and creative writing) to help build professional portfolios. Placements will be able to participate in trainings in safety and career-building within the Federal government.

Required Qualifications

  • Driver's license, Personal vehicle required

This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or a lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Recommended skills include but aren't limited to:

  • Strong writing and editing
  • Attention to detail
  • Familiarity with state academic standards
  • Use of Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, and social media platforms to develop and update digital media
  • Ability to work independently
  • Time management and organization
  • Multimedia content creation

Compensation

  • One-time travel allowance: $1100* pretax ,(personal vehicle required)
  • Weekly living allowance: $600* / week, pretax
  • Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority *All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
