About Us:
The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.
Position Description:
The position will be trained to help with on-going community science research in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and then creating simple and engaging content to share with the public. Roughly 70% of the time will be science-oriented, with the other 30% science content creation. Science projects may include bird banding, salamander monitoring, butterfly education, and phenology monitoring, among other projects. Media elements could include video shooting, articles, and interviews.
Member Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Field Science monitoring
- Creating science communication content
- Data entry and analysis
- Presenting short science lessons
Member Marginal Duties
- Be part of a community of educators and science volunteers
- Other needs related to science programming
Member Required Qualifications
- Science background or field research experience
- Proficient in writing short content for publication
- Willing to be on camera, comfortable advocating for and promoting science literacy
Member Preferred Qualifications
- Video Editing
- Data Analysis
Member Benefits
- $600/week living allowance
- $1,130 one-time relocation travel allowance
- SCA will manage housing rental
