Program Dates: 7/1/24 - 8/2/24

About us:Conservation Begins Here®
The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.

Program Description:
Project Location: San Mateo and Santa Clara County

The Peninsula Climate Resilience Corps will work to implement projects and engage the community, assessing their needs and their knowledge of climate resiliency.

Projects could include San Mateo County Parks (trail maintenance and invasive removal), MidPeninsula Open Space (habitat restoration), Santa Clara Open Space Authority (fuels reduction), and other local parks.

The team will have Friday recreation and education opportunities and the second to last week of work will be a camping trip with the opportunity to learn from local rangers and continue work projects. All gear and food will be provided on the camping trip; members will learn how to set up tents, and cook and live outdoors safely, under guidance from crew leaders.

SCA leaders will pick up and drop off members at central location. Members are expected to be prepared for the work day: on time, with their lunch and water packed.

Participants should wear all leather boots to work each day. SCA has a limited number of boots to loan members who don't have their own (members can message staff to request boots).

Working environment might be cool in the morning and possibly hot during the day; crew members should dress in layers to be prepared. SCA will provide gloves, helmet, eye protection, and training in the safe use of hand tools.

Acceptance of this position means the members understands it is a full time commitment during the dates of the program, and will communicate to their crew leaders if there is any potential conflict.

The team will consist of 8 members and 2 leaders.
