Community Garden Participant

Position Summary

Community Garden and Urban Agriculture Operations Assistant to support San Francisco Department of Recreation and Parks to provide support, conduct community engagement, lead events, and more across multiple garden and agriculture sites.

Schedule

March 17, 2025 - June 30, 2026

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supporting materials management and distribution within the SFRPD urban ag system.
  • Support all-hands large-scale events.
  • Works under direction, with some independent tasks.

Marginal Duties

  • Lead and facilitate educational workshops and events through structured activities.
  • Engage and manage groups of youth and/or adults for 2+ hours for volunteer events.

Required Qualifications

  • Willing to work occasional off hours and outdoors in inclement weather
  • California State Drivers' License with a good driving record
  • Have strong public-facing communication skills
  • Working skills and knowledge in urban agriculture and community development
  • Experience working with youth is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enjoys working with diverse intergenerational crowds, and has a strong interest in working with youth
  • Interest and experience in Urban Agriculture and Urban Parks
  • Experience leading/facilitating youth through structured activities
  • Able to engage and comfortable managing groups of youth and/or adults for 2+ hours
  • Works well in a team setting and similarly, is self-motivated and can work independently
  • Demonstrate moderate working knowledge of urban agriculture principles and community volunteer management.
  • Passion for the environment and working outdoors - Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous related experience or background in biology, environmental studies, or other related subjects or strong interest and willingness to learn independently and through experience
  • B.A. or B.S. in a related subject (preferred not required)
  • Multi-lingual, ideally in Spanish and/or Cantonese
  • Comfortable driving large C-Class vehicles or willing to learn
  • Ideally Bay Area resident

40 per week

Compensation

$725 weekly stipend, paid bi-weekly

$900-month housing allowance

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
