Individual Placement - Alum Research & Engagement Participant
Position Summary
Since 1981, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy (Parks Conservancy) has served as the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, collaborating with the Presidio Trust, partners, donors, and the community to support the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). The GGNRA stretches across three Bay Area counties north and south of the Golden Gate Bridge and includes iconic places such as Muir Woods National Monument, Fort Point National Historic Site, Alcatraz Island, Crissy Field, Mori Point, Lands End, and the Presidio of San Francisco.
The Parks Conservancy engages at the intersection of national park sites, local communities, social justice, and climate resilience. We are looking for a highly organized and persuasive individual to identify, contact, and recruit alumni from 2020 and prior of the Urban Trailblazers, Inspiring Young Emerging Leaders, and Academic Internship programs to participate in a longitudinal research project exploring education and career paths of youth and intern program alum. The Alum Research & Engagement Individual Placement will serve as the representative of the UTB, I-YEL, and AIP alums. This position will perform a variety of tasks that include attending online training, participating in monthly calls with project leaders, obtaining contact information for potential program alumni, maintaining the contact lists, collecting and analyzing resumes from participating alumni, and collecting data with the goal of response from at least 40% of the alumni.
In addition to research and data collection, this position will work closely with the Senior Program Manager for Youth Programs to develop a calendar of alumni engagement activities that will take place at different park locations and virtually that may include picnic BBQs, guided hikes, campfires, and other programmatic or networking events. In 2026, the Crissy Field Center will be celebrating its 25th year anniversary and will be hosting various celebratory events including events for youth program alum. Duties will include creating and sending out communications to alum, inviting alum to take an active role in engagement opportunities, event planning, coordinating with alum to implement engagement activities, and potential mentoring opportunities for an alumni network.

Full-time 2 (32 hours a week), typically Monday-Friday, some weeks may include evenings and/or Saturdays for engagement events. This position will be hybrid (in-person & remote). We expect 1-2 days of remote work and 2-3 days in-person to conduct data collection and implement engagement activities in the field.
Work Sites: Alum engagement activities may take place at any of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area park sites in San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo Counties. The Crissy Field Center will serve as homebase for in-person meetings and event preparation with occasional meetings at Fort Mason. Transportation will be made available from the Crissy Field Center to other park sites.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Alumni Tracking and Data Collection
- Identify, recruit, and communicate with program alums to encourage them to participate in research.
- Examine program records and use an address look-up subscription and alumni network to develop a contact list.
- Maintain an up-to-date contact list of program alum.
- Invite alums to complete an online questionnaire, aiming for a 70% response rate.
- Carefully follow research protocols provided by the project.
- Attend online training sessions. 3. Communicate project status, successes, and challenges with the project team.
- Attend weekly online meetings with project leaders.
- Share successful recruiting techniques with project leaders and other Alumni Research & Engagement Individual Placement.
- Alumni Engagement
- Research existing communication channels used by programs and potential new tools for deeper and wider engagement (ex. Email lists, newsletter, social media pages, etc.).
- Work with Program Managers to schedule, coordinate, and plan engagement activities that would be specific to their program or for entire alum network. This could include, but is not limited to:
- Networking events
- Hikes in the parks
- Program engagement
- Trainings
- Community service events
- General
- Understand and closely follow protocols to maintain a safe work environment.
- Communicate in-person & by email, phone, videoconference, etc. in a consistent, timely, and professional manner.
- Keep program equipment in good working condition and proper storage.

Required Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Direct experience with Urban Trailblazers, Inspiring Young Emerging Leaders, Academic Internship or any other Parks Conservancy youth and internship program as a participant or staff preferred.
- Experience in customer service or retail preferred, comfortable communicating internally & externally in a professional manner via phone & email
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite of tools, including Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with Salesforce or similar database platforms a plus; comfort & willingness to learn new software
- Respect for confidentiality of data and personal information
- Ability to carefully follow research scripts and protocol
- Enthusiasm for accomplishing work as a team
- Energetic and self-motivated; able to work independently once provided direction.
- Good communication skills and respect for others. Responds to texts and emails in a professional & timely manner. Detail-oriented & organized

Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
- At least 1 year (can be cumulative) of experience working face-to-face with members of the public (e.g., customer service, camp counselor, community outreach activities)
- Some experience spending time outdoors, recreation counts
- Experience using spreadsheets and email
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.
