Position Summary

The HR Fellow will support the Human Resources department in conducting research, improving onboarding processes, and developing resources for new hires and employees. This role provides an opportunity for individuals interested in gaining exposure to HR operations within a nonprofit setting. The fellow will assist in developing key resources, including detailed onboarding guidance and process documentation, to streamline onboarding and compliance. This position is ideal for those curious about HR's role in organizational management and those seeking hands-on experience in project management and process optimization. All SCA Fellow Interns will operate as a cohort, participating in orientation, training, and ongoing check-ins together throughout the program.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Research and Develop Minor Work Permit Documentation:

  • Conduct research on state-specific minor work permits, including requirements for obtaining permits, age restrictions, and relevant contacts for obtaining permits.
  • Collaborate with HR to draft a resource that provides this information for internal use, allowing managers and the onboarding team to efficiently navigate minor employment requirements.

2. Onboarding Resource Development:

  • Create an Onboarding Resource Guide that will support a checklist of tasks for new hires. This guide should provide general instructions on important onboarding steps, including topics such as setting up required documentation, filling out necessary forms, and understanding basic company processes.
  • Ensure the guide offers clear and accessible information, helping new hires navigate the administrative aspects of starting their position efficiently. The resource will act as a reference alongside the checklist to ensure all essential tasks are completed.

3. Excel Automation and Tracking:

  • Research and evaluate tools or services that can help automate Excel processes, specifically the onboarding tracker, for easier use by the onboarding team and program managers.
  • Assist in improving functionality to keep the tracker up to date and user-friendly for multiple teams.

4. HR Benefits Brochure:

  • Design a digital HR benefits brochure for full-time staff that highlights benefits. The brochure will be shared via QR code during onboarding and recruiting events.


Marginal Duties

Assist with other HR-related projects, including compliance tasks and process documentation.; Collaborate with team members to improve document management and organizational efficiency.


Required Qualifications

Must have previous experience working in an SCA position (internship or team). Current enrollment or recent graduate in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.; Strong research and organizational skills.; Proficient in Microsoft Excel and knowledgeable in basic automation techniques.; Excellent written and verbal communication skills.; Ability to work independently and collaboratively.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience with HRIS software.; Familiarity with design tools such as Canva.;Prior experience in nonprofit organizations or HR roles.; Interest in conservation or nonprofit work environments.


Hours

30 per week


Living Accommodations

Compensation

$20/hr, paid biweekly

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
