Position Summary

The Accounting Assistant supports the finance department by performing routine and assigned accounting tasks with accuracy and timeliness. This temporary remote position is expected to last up to 6 months and is compensated at an hourly rate of $23.51. Key responsibilities include reconciling accounts (bank, credit card, cash, and prepaids), preparing journal entries, and supporting general ledger functions. The ideal candidate will have experience using Sage Intacct, a strong grasp of nonprofit accounting practices, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a virtual environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine and assigned bookkeeping and accounting tasks as directed.
  • Performs reconciliations of bank accounts, cash, prepaids, credit cards and others.
  • Performs collaboratively with and in support of other services offered by finance.
  • Prepares journal entries as requested by accounts receivables and to make corrections as needed.
  • Leverages accounting software and systems to effectively perform duties.
  • Delivers with timeliness, accuracy, completeness, and effectively, to the highest ethical standards, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for non-profit entities and in accordance with the organization's mission, values, and universal standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must have extensive Sage Intacct experience or experience with other Sage products
  • Skilled with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams or Zoom, and standard office equipment
  • Promotes and adheres to the company's mission, vision, values, policies, and applicable laws in a fair and equitable manner
  • Represents the organization in a professional manner to all customers, vendors, and internal personnel
  • Successfully completes pre-employment background screening

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in nonprofit and/or grant accounting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting theory and practices for nonprofits

Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree in a related area strongly preferred; any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work
  • Minimum of two years of bookkeeping or closely related experience, including:
  • Journal entries (debits and credits)
  • Reconciliation of cash and credit card accounts
  • Multiple bank reconciliations and cash recording
  • Understanding of chart of accounts, trial balance, and balance sheet
