School Year UCF USFS Member
Position Summary:
The East Bay Urban Forestry School Year Urban Forestry Crew will work to implement projects that increase tree canopy and enhance green spaces. Projects will include tree planting and care, invasive removal, tree mapping and more. Projects will take place at schools and parks across Alameda County including in the Cities of Oakland and San Leandro.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The crew will support Urban Forestry efforts across the East Bay, including tree planting, mulching, care, and support volunteer events to increase awareness of benefits of trees. Work schedule is every other weekend starting January 11th. The crew will also spend 1 hour a month virtually on Wednesday for education opportunities.
The last week of work will be a camping trip with further learning and fun! All gear and food will be provided on the camping trip; member will learn how to set up tents, cook and live outdoors safely.
SCA leaders will pick up and drop off members at central location. Members are expected to be prepared for the workday: on time, with their lunch and water packed. Participants should wear all leather boots to work each day. SCA has a limited number of boots to loan members who don't have their own (members can message staff to request boots).
The working environment might be cool in the morning and possibly hot during the day; crew members should dress in layers to be prepared. SCA will provide gloves, uniform shirts, eye protection, and training in the safe use of hand tools.
Acceptance of this position means the members understand the time commitment during program dates and will communicate with their leaders if there is any potential conflict.
The team will consist of 10 high school-aged members and 2 leaders.
Schedule:
Saturday: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Sunday: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
Wednesdays: 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Required Qualifications:
- Local high school students in the East Bay Area
- Experience or interest with conservation work skills or related skills preferred - i.e., gardening, tree planting, hiking
- Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements, and must occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more
- Must have the ability to legally work in the US

$17.25/hour
