Historic Preservation Crew - Independence Hall
Position Summary
Contribute to an incredible collaborative historic preservation project at Independence Hall National Park through projects addressing a range of preservation needs, primarily painting, finishes, and preservation maintenance. During this 10-week project, crew members will have the opportunity to develop their skills in historic finishes, painting techniques, and other preservation maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate is excited about hands-on trades work and should be able to demonstrate or discuss their interest in the preservation field. Crew members must be able to commit to the position from June 16 – August 8, 2025, with weekends and federal holidays off.

Project Locations: Independence Hall, Philadelphia, PA
Program Dates: June 9 – August 8, 2025
Hours: Typically, M-F, 7:30a – 4:00p. Federal Holidays Off
Crew will take leave (unpaid, housing still available) June 29-July 5 for Freedom Week

Required Qualifications
- Interest in historic preservation trades
- Age restrictions: 18+
- Must be able to commit to project dates
- Physical effort is heavy to moderate for this position and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 lbs, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions
- Must be able and willing to work outside in various temperatures and weather conditions.
- Willing and able to use hand and power tools to complete projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Some preservation or general trades experience, particularly in painting and finishes
- Experience working on a team
- SCA Historic Preservation alumni
