Curation Technician Internship

Position Summary

The Curation Technician Interns will be based at Death Valley National Park working alongside curatorial staff to manage artifacts and archival material specifically related to Manzanar National Historic Site. Specific duties associated with this internship include but are not limited to: - Inventory collection items and write condition and/or treatment reports. - Label, catalog, and place items in storage. - Prepare and assist with the maintenance of curatorial records, including accession records, catalog records, donation forms, loan forms, inventories, and object lists. - Data Entry - Perform environmental monitoring of approximately 25 spaces using dataloggers and associated software. - Analyze data and produce a short monthly report. - Perform routine research for catalog records, exhibits, and other purposes as assigned.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

While the successful candidate will work primarily at Death Valley, the interns will be expected to travel to Manzanar NHS periodically to assist with curatorial projects and special events.

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants should be studying or have a degree in an academic field related to cultural resource stewardship.

This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to travel to Manzanar NHS by vehicle.

Hours

40 per week

Living Accommodations

  • Housing provided by NPS, paid for by Interns using monthly housing allowance.

Compensation

  • $400/week Living Allowance
  • $1,100 travel allowance (one-time, personal vehicle required)
  • $1,000/month Housing Allowance.

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
