Natural Resources Individual Placement
Position Summary
The McConnell Air Force Base (MAFB) Student Conservation Association (SCA) intern will assist the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) biologist with fieldwork to support the MAFB natural resources program. The natural resources program of MAFB is responsible for implementing the Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (INRMP). This intern position will support the USFWS fish and wildlife biologist in conducting fieldwork that is required under the INRMP.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Duties will involve the collection, organization, and entry of all field data as part of the natural resources program and in support of the INRMP. The intern will become familiar with federally threatened plant and mammal species and learn how to conduct work in sensitive areas, and work with external partners on the installation. Conduct pollinator surveys and noxious weed surveys and control.
Marginal Duties
Invasive weed survey and removal; Small mammal trapping on the airfield working with USDA APHIS WS; Trail camera placement and monitoring to survey wildlife found on McConnell AFB; Habitat management; Bird surveys, Invertebrate survey, bee and Monarch; Assisting Natural Resources on projects.
Required Qualifications
Possess a BSc. related to Biology, Zoology or Wildlife Management & Conservation.
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrate a passion for natural resources and a love of working outdoors. 1+ year of experience with biological field work. An eye for detail, as accurate and precise data collection and entry is essential. Excellent interpersonal skills, experience working with other field staff. A high level of physical fitness. Clean driving record. Be able to pass a security background check.
Hours
40 per week
Living Accommodations
Member will be required to find own housing.
Compensation
Living allowance - $500/week; Housing allowance - $1000/month
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
