Interpretation Ranger Participant

Position Summary

The Tongass National Forest's Southeast Alaska Discovery Center seeks interested candidates for Student Conservation Association interns. We're looking for people enthusiastic about sharing the cultural heritage, economic diversity and natural beauty of the Tongass with Ketchikan visitors.

Working from our landmark downtown visitor center near the cruise ship docks, interns work alongside permanent staff to serve visitors from around the world.

Duties include assisting staff with day-to-day operations of the Discovery Center, including checking admission tickets, presenting interpretive programs on a variety of Southeast Alaska topics, answering visitor questions, providing conservation education programs to youth, operating audio-visual equipment, and assisting with center maintenance, cleaning, and special events as necessary.



Compensation:

  • $1,500 - one-time RT travel allowance
  • $425 - weekly living allowance
  • No housing
  • All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes

**Please note: housing is not available for this position. Only local candidates with housing in Ketchikan will be considered.
