Individual Placement Position - Dispersed Recreation Technician - Clear Creek Ranger District

Position Summary

The Clear Creek Ranger District is seeking one Front Recreation Technician to support a variety of tasks in recreation, trails, and OHV programs. These are dynamic and engaging positions in a busy urban Front Country unit, with opportunities to learn a variety of skillsets related to management of recreational resources.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Position may work independently or part of a team. Primarily on the OHV motorized route systems. Duties may include a variety of task that include, but not limited to; monitoring and patrolling campgrounds and dispersed camping areas, patrolling on Off-Highway Vehicles, making public contacts for compliance, planning and implementing volunteer projects, OHV/FIRE signage inspections and installations, and general motorized trail maintenance.

Marginal Duties

Basic understanding and development of Motor Vehicle Use Maps (Avenza App), forest maps, and tracking; management of online data; assisting other forest service programs as needed;

Adults 18 or older

Required Qualifications

Valid Driver's License; This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Preferred Qualifications

Chainsaw & crosscut certifications/experience; Off-Highay Vehicle certification/experience; CPR/AED/First Aid; Public Speaking

Living Accommodations

Housing may available at the Clear Creek Work Center in Idaho Springs. Interns will share a small a large bunkhouse with other interns or government employees. Shared bathrooms and kitchen facilities and is minimally furnished. Laundry is available on site and public WIFI is available in Idaho Springs. Most cellphone service carriers cover the area around the Work Center and the town of Idaho Springs.

Compensation

$600/week @ 20 weeks; Government housing may be available or $400 monthly living allowance; $1,100 round trip travel allowance; AmeriCorps eligible, upon completion of 460 hours; Paid Federal Holidays; Public Land Corp PLC Eligible if under 30 and 35 for veterans

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.

• Able to wear all required personal protective equipment, including internal or external, safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, N95 or other approved face mask or shield, chaps, and appropriate footwear.
• Able to refrain from behaviors and actions that disrupt the work and safety of others.
• Able to cooperate with others to complete daily group tasks, responsibilities, and project work under potentially difficult conditions, variable daily routines, and with limited personal time.
• Able to self-regulate or co-regulate emotions and actions when distressed or uncomfortable, with or without the support of others.
• Able to self-manage outdoor and environmental exposure (e.g., temperature, wind, sun, etc.) in a variety of weather conditions.
• If using prescription medications, able to self-medicate by following the prescribed dosage, usage, and timing without supervisor assistance (except possibly at the direction of higher medical authority in emergency situations).
• Able to independently carry a backpack weighing up to or approximately 30% of body weight for a minimum of 5 miles and a maximum of 15 miles with adequate breaks dependent on weather, terrain, and trail conditions.
• Able to lift a backpack weighing up to or approximately 30% of body weight, with minimal assistance from others.
