Independent Placement Program - Arapaho National Recreation Area Individual Placement

Position Summary

The SCA participants will work in conjunction with district Arapaho National Recreation Area (ANRA) Staff to reconstruct, patrol, monitor, assess, and maintain Developed Recreation areas in The East Troublesome Burn Area as well as ones not effected by the fire.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The SCA participants will work in conjunction with district Arapaho National Recreation Area (ANRA) Staff to reconstruct, patrol, monitor, assess, and maintain Developed Recreation areas in The East Troublesome Burn Area as well as ones not effected by the fire. Participants would be involved in lake management consisting of dock placement and maintenance, buoy placement & management, gate management & signage and Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Support. The participants would be doing ground maintenance in the developed day use areas throughout the ANRA by doing vegetation management, parking lot maintenance, boat launch, walking surface maintenance. Participants will be responsible for assuring trails within the ANRA are maintained to established standards which will include the use of crosscut saws and/or chainsaws and other primitive tools. Interns would also be involved in facilities maintenance such as toilet facility cleaning and stocking, minor structure repairs painting, trash/litter cleanup, signage and information posting, fencing repair etc. They would also be involved in informing the public by education on camping rules, leave no trace, fee compliance, CPW registrations, and lake patrols. Participants will be involved in daily interactions with multiple staff, cooperators, and partners, we are looking for energetic, enthusiastic adults that thrive in a dynamic group work environment and get along well with others.

Marginal Duties

The participant would help out with other recreation recourses.

Required Qualifications

Valid driver's license

This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Preferred Qualifications

Boating experience; Interacting with public and customer service; Working in a outdoor environment being exposed to various weather conditions

40 per week

Living Accommodations

Members will share small government houses with other program participants or government employees. Houses consist of 2 or 3 small bedrooms with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. Members will be assigned a house with other members or government employees of the same gender and each person shall have their own bedroom. The town of Grand Lake is 4 miles from the housing/work center. the town of Grand Lake has 2 small grocery stores, laundromat, a myriad of restaurants, live theater, marina, etc. Access to Amenities By foot/bike ,By car

Compensation

  • $460/week @ 16wks Government housing available or $400 monthly living allowance
  • $1,100 round trip travel allowance AmeriCorps eligible ($1,956.35 education award) upon completion of 460 hrs
  • Paid Federal Holidays
  • Public Lands Corps PLC Eligible if under 30 and 35 for veterans

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
