Solano Summer 2025 Crew Member

About us:

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.

Program Description:

Project Location: Fairfield, CA

The Xplore Solano Summer Youth Work Experience Program will work to implement will work to implement conservation work projects and engage in career education related to emerging green careers.

Projects could include working with the Solano Land Trust (agriculture, trail maintenance, and invasive removal), Solano County Resource Conservation District (nursery work, habitat restoration), Fairfield Suisun Sewer District (water conservation project), and Solano County Parks.

The team will have Friday recreation and training opportunities related to watershed health, agriculture, green careers, and more.

SCA leaders will pick up and drop off members at a central location. Members are expected to be prepared for the workday: on time, with their lunch and water packed.

Participants should wear all leather boots to work each day. SCA has a limited number of boots to loan members who don't have their own (members can message staff to request boots).

Working environment might be cool in the morning and possibly hot during the day; crew members should dress in layers to be prepared. SCA will provide gloves, helmet, eye protection, and training in the safe use of hand tools.

Acceptance of this position means the members understands it is a full-time commitment during the dates of the program and will communicate to their crew leaders if there is any potential conflict.

The team will consist of 12 members and 2 leaders.

  • Member Qualifications:
  • Local resident in Solano County
  • Experience or interest with conservation work skills or related skills preferred - i.e., trail maintenance, trail construction, habitat restoration, chainsaw, carpentry, landscaping, and gardening
  • Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements, and must occasionally lift and or move 40 pounds or more
  • Must be a high-school student, recent graduates OK.
  • Must have the ability to legally work in the US

Additional Information:

Schedule: Monday - Thursday 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Fridays 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

  • Project tool use and safety
  • Basic first aid
  • Field tool use
  • Plant ID
  • Trail building and maintenance skills
  • Safety and risk management
